Start With The End In Mind

Reblogger Phil Leng

A question I often ask the person I am consulting with is the following:

It is December 2011. You are looking back over the year. What are you the happiest that you achieved? What are the things that you can point to with pleasure? What are the goals that you laid out that you accomplished? Where do you want to be, one year from now?

Start with the end, then work back to the beginning. Make your goals and set out the steps needed to achieve them.

Motivational Power Quote

Start With The End In Mind

"You read a book from beginning to end.

You run a business the opposite way.

You start with the end,

And then you do everything you must to reach it."

Harold Geneen, Former CEO of ITT

As I see it. . . . . . . .

Start with the end in mind

With any journey to be successful you have to know you're destination in other words you have to start your journey with the end in mind.

When we have our destination, we have a clear path to follow to reach our chosen destination.

When we start with the end in mind we can effectively concentrate our energy and efforts to achieve a specific objection with greater proficiency. As we concentrate our energy we create the power of purpose to stay on the right path to achieve our desired results.

Starting with end in mind clears the clutter from your thinking to a point where you're thought are focused on your objectives. When you're focused on your destination your actions will work in harmony with your thinking to pull you closer to your destination and your goals.

When you start with the end in mind you plan to succeed in advance of your success journey starting and your internal GPS is set and your pathway to achieving your objective is there for you to follow.

Definately.  We need to set a target to aim for and then hit it until we hit it!

I prefer the "Power of Now"  Projecting into the future, Oct 2011,  makes me want to predict a beautiful outcome, and when reality sets in, and I want to overlook it.  In my world, waking up each day, giving everything I do that day 110% of my effort, and letting the outcome be what it will be, allows me to stay "in the moment" and not stress out when things are not going my way

I have a vision. I am selling new homes on the golf course. I'm selling upscale homes in the Southwest side of town to Doctors. I'm buying rental properties that cash flow. I'm growing my business with referrals. I'm the best. I have great relationships with Clients. I am successful and happy.

Believe it, live it.

Phil: A great reminder that's it's sometimes that easy. Projecting yourself into the future and looking back is way better than trying to peer into and unknown future trying to guess what might happen...

Hi Chuck,

Reminds me of the old saying

"If you fail to plan, you plan to fail!"

David,

There is something to be said about living each day for the day.

However, without a longer term goal, you can get off a little each day and eventually be way off course. I learned that in boating. You have to set a long term goal and course correct to that goal.

Rene,

That easy! Last couple of days it snowed and was foggy. Everything slowed way down and was harder. But having a goal, a destination, was still important. It took longer and was harder, but there was still steady progress toward the goal...

Kate -

I'm not surprised. You seem like a very goal oriented, on target person...
