Talk about an "eagle eye!"
This... is Focus!

That photo, by a gifted Canadian, is the wallpaper on my office computer, courtesy of Caedes.net

It reminds me time and again to do one thing at a time, to do it well, and to get it done before starting something else.

Because of Active Rain, I'm focused.  Attention Deficit Disorder hadn't been invented when I was a child, but I'm afflicted.  My parents raised me to develop diverse interests.

If my lending business dips into a trough, it's because something else captured my attention, and my focus was diverted.

Blogging on Active Rain, and even more than that--reading your blog posts of struggles that I recognize in my own experience--has improved my focus.  So what does that mean?  And why should you care?

William James, in 1890, wrote that attention (his term for what I call focus) "...is the taking possession by the mind, in clear and vivid form, of one out of what seem several simultaneously possible objects or trains of thought."

I had drifted away from that.

Thanks to Active Rain, I once again look at my business with the same attention that great eagle is paying to whatever it is that he has chosen to focus upon.

It is kind of hard, in RE, to stay FOCUSED on ONE thing.  You think you're going to do that and then someone or something else tries to vie for your attention.  FOCUS  is important.  Nice picture:)

Mike - Good post.  Focus is essential.  Most agents run their lives like Frisbees, you never know what they will hit or where they will land.  Focus seperates those that manage themselves, their business and their time from those that never have enough hours in the day.

Ed, what I meant to say... is that it's important to focus on one thing at a time.  And to stay with it until it's done.  Left to my own devices, I'd have 30 projects going at the same time, and none would ever quite get finished.  Thanks for visiting and commenting.

Joan, I see why we get along so well.  LOL!

Marlene, like it says in Proverbs, "iron sharpens iron..."  Thanks for commenting.

Dan, I love your "frisbee" analogy.  That's a new one for me, and I'll likely use it.  Thanks for commenting.

Rita, thanks for stopping by and commenting.

Hi Mike,
I agree but I must admit, it is difficult for me.  I am a multi-tasker.  I always have about 5 things going on at once.  The focus I do have is my goal and I do work hard to keep that always before me.  Thanks, good blog as always from you.

Great post Mike!  I was telling a friend/AR member that you have to put posting to AR on your schedule and make it a constant part of everyday.  I'll have to direct her to your post (I think she may be ADD too) so she will be inspired to stay focused and she will succeed!
