At a home inspection just the other day, I had a client ask me what was the worst house that I had ever inspected. Now, let me clarify: If you ask any home inspector that question, it makes the home inspector relive some mental nightmares. So, do not be surprised if the inspector goes into a cold sweat or starts screaming and ends up being taken away in a straitjacket.
You have, by going down that road on memory lane, taken the inspector on a mind excursion into no man's land. Hopefully the inspector will not be up on the roof, when the question is popped, if so, he or she may jump as a suicidal gesture of desperation.
When I was asked that question, I began to sort through the filing cabinet in my mind. I decided, a day later, that the winner of "worst ever" is the beauty below. I think the photos of this bank-owned property give an excellent representation of every pristine detail of this lovely home. To their credit, no real estate agents were involved in this one -- just the bank and the potential purchaser. I inspected it years ago, but in my memories, it seems like only yesterday evermore.
Our move-in ready home tour begins at the exterior. Note the landscaping and the native plants.
And from the beautifully coiffed exterior, we move inside to the custom designed and spotlessly maintained master bedroom and master bath.
So that was the worst house I have ever inspected. No doubt about it!
In a similar vein, if you were to ask me what was the strangest thing I have ever come across during an inspection, well that one is easy. It was the coiled-up green rattlesnake in the door of the refrigerator -- where the green relish and pickles should go. That was one appliance that got excluded from the inspection sooner rather than later.
