Professional sports teams in the Raleigh area have consistently brought prestige to the area with national championships and awards. With teams in baseball, hockey, football, NASCAR, rugby, soccer, and basketball, there is something for all Raleigh sports fans.

Here's some quick facts about the Raleigh area's professional sports teams - from your Raleigh relocation information resource. 

Carolina Mudcats

  • The Carolina Mudcats are a Minor League Baseball team, located in Zebulon, NC
  • The Mudcats will begin their 21st season with an opening game against the Mobile Bay Bears on Thursday April 7, 2011
  • The Mudcats are a Double-A affiliate of the Cincinnati Reds
  • Post-game fireworks follow Friday night home games
  • The Five County Stadium is home to the Mudcats
  • Fans can take tours of the suites, grounds crew area, and clubhouse of the Five County Stadium
  • Muddy the Mudcat is the Mudcats mascot
  • Adult Tickets can be purchased for as little as $6 each, with full-season, half-season, group, and bonus packages also available
  • The Mudcats will play 70 home games in the 2011 season

Durham Bulls Baseball

  • The Durham Bulls is a Triple-A minor league team, and an affiliate to the Tampa Bay Rays MLB team
  • The Durham Bulls Athletic Park (DBAP), located in downtown Durham, is home to the Bulls
  • DBAP opened in 1995 and seats 10,000
  • DBAP is a single-level ballpark, wrapping around the field for more fans to be up close to the action
  • DBAP offers several private picnic areas for groups to reserve
  • There are 71 games in the Bulls' 2011 - 2012 season, running from April through September
  • Individual game tickets go on sale in March 2011, with full and half-season ticket plans available
  • Mascot Wool E. Bull is the inspiration for Wool E's World, a free playground open on game days for kids under five
  • Post-game fireworks follow Friday night home games
  • $1 hot dog, French fries, and popcorn are available on Thursday games

 

Carolina Hurricanes Pro Hockey

  • The Carolina Hurricanes are members of the National Hockey League, playing in the Southeast Division of the Eastern Conference
  • The Raleigh RBC Center is home to the Hurricanes
  • The Hurricanes won the Stanley Cup in the 2005-2006 season
  • The current Hurricanes season lasts from October 2010 through April 2011
  • Regular Seasons usually have roughly 40-45 home games and 40-45 away games for a total of between 80 and 90 games
  • The 2010-2011 Regular Season has 42 home games and 41 away games
  • Storm Squad cheer leaders and Stormy the "ice hog" entertain fans throughout the games
  • The Hurricanes host several theme and discount nights, including Canes College nights, teacher discount night, military appreciation program, family nights, Harris Teeter nights, and "99.9 The Fan" ticket nights.

  • The North Carolina Trailblazers Womens Hockey Association allows women to participate in either the "Senior C Level" team or one of the recreational teams
  • The association was founded in 1995 for recreational ice hockey participation
  • Competative Trailblazer teams compete in the Southeast Regional Division of the Mid-Atlantic Women's Hockey League
  • The Cary Ice House is home to the Trailblazers
  • The Trailblazers encourage new women (ages 14 and up) to join practices, which run from September through March
  • There are several non-competative Trailblazers teams

Carolina PanthersRaleigh Professional Sports | Raleigh Relocation Information

  • The Carolina Panthers are members of the National Football League (NFL)
  • The Bank of America Stadium, located in Uptown Charlotte, is home to the Panthers
  • The B of A Stadium opened in 1996 and has more than 73,000 stadium seats
  • There are 10 home games for the 2010 - 2011 season
  • The Panthers' Regular Season runs from September through January, with 20 games total
  • Single Game Ticket prices range from $39 to $97 and various group, season, and special packages can be purchased
  • Sir Purr, the Panthers mascot, wanders through the crowd throughout the games
  • The "Fuel Up to Play 60 Kids Combine" is a free area open on game days for kids to participate in fitness activities, such as the 40-yard dash
  • Fans can create a Scoreboard Greeting to be displayed during the game

NASCAR On-Line

  • National Association for Stock Car Auto Racing (NASCAR) at the Charlotte Motor Speedway is a popular destination for sports fans
  • The Speedway, completed in 1959, sells out the 165,000 available seats
  • NASCAR races are usually weekend-long events, with trailer-friendly grounds at the Speedway
  • Charlotte hosts three NASCAR national series, the Sprint Cup Series, Nationwide, and Camping World Truck Series. Each of these series will occur at least once at the Charlotte Speedway in May and October 2011
  • The Coca-Cola 600 is also held at the Charlotte Speedway, and will occur on May 29, 2011

Raleigh Rugby Football Club

  • The Raleigh Rugby Football Club hosts both Men's and Women's Division II Mid-Atlantic Rugby Football Union (MARFU) teams
  • The club consists of three separate teams, the Vipers (men only), the Venom (women only) and the Rattlesnakes (youth rookies)
  • The club was founded in April of 1981, and all teams play at the Raleigh Rugby Football Club World Class Facilities
  • The club runs two seasons, one in Fall from August through November and one in Spring from February through May
  • Fans and players are encouraged to participate 

Carolina RailHawks

  • The Carolina RailHaws are a United States Soccer Federation Division 2 Pro League team, located in the North American Soccer League conference
  • The WakeMed Soccer Park, located at the eastern edge of Cary, is home to the RailHawks
  • The Park opened in 2002
  • The Park seats 7,000 fans, with an additional 3,000 temporary seats available
  • Prices start as low at $10 for adult tickets ($12 at the gate) and $5 for child tickets
  • Tickets can also be purchased in season packages, with games from March through October
  • Carolina RailHawks tryouts for the 2011 roster are to be held on December  11th and 12th
  • Swoops, the RailHawks mascot, hosts the Swoops Kids Club
  • Tailgating is encouraged at the soccer park
  • The park hosts themed nights with "kids zone" inflatable bounce house 

Charlotte Bobcats

  • The Charlotte Bobcats play for the National Basketball Association (NBA)
  • The NBA season runs from October 2010 through April 2011
  • The Time Warner Cable Arena, located in uptown Charlotte, is home to the Bobcats
  • The arena opened in 2005, and currently has a  seating capacity of just over 19,000 for NBA games
  • The Bobcats play 41 home games and 41 away games
  • Tickets can be purchases on a single-game basis, or with a season-long package
  • Rufus Lynx, the Bobcats mascot, entertains fans at games and within the community at various events
