Oh no -- A New Danger!

Possible Toxic Reusable Bags

Oh no -- A New Danger!  Bringing home the groceries safely is becoming a real challenge if you are to believe everything you read.  First it was get rid of the perverbial paper bag as it was decimating the forests, etc.  So, the plastic bag came along and we had our choice -- paper or plastic.  That seemed to work for years.  But than no matter how well these worked and you could reuse them for other things they were declared bad, bad, bad for landfills, etc.  Okay, next you are encouraged to purchase and use your own toting bags.

Okay, now that many of us have these bags stuffed all over the place in our vehicles as we never know when we may run into the grocery or whatever store they are becoming declared "off limits" and dangerous -- there's lead in them!!  Here's an article in our online Hendersonville Times-News explaining this latest threat.

Myself, I'm weary of the battle of trying to tote the groceries home safely and will continue to use my multitude of reuseable bags of which I have many more than those in the picture!  By the time these all fall apart they may have finally found the absolutely safest way to tote things home uncontaminated!  Geeze.

Simply put no matter waht they decide its going to be which person paid which lobbyist who in turn paid a politician to sway the general public a certain way or to believe a certain thing no matter how true it is or not... Just do what is sensible for you and your family and what you believe to be good for the enviroment.

I thought this was the better alternative...the use of resuable bags. But LEAD?? I guess I just assumed that no one was using that anymore. How can we win??? I also think that no matter what we buy...it's just a gamble anyway...our food might be recalled for some thing. We grow a lot of our own food in the summer and preserve some for winter, but we can't do enough.

I can't believe this.  I always have to slink off in shame because I forget to bring these bags anyway when I dash off to the store.  Even when I keep them in the back of the car I forget to bring them in the store.  I forget until the walk of shame at the check out when all the eco-superiors bag their groceries in them.  Glad to know I've saved myself lead exposure.

I know this may sound cruel, and I certainly don't want to offend anyone, but back in the day when people had jobs and products were made in America, I don't recall having those problems.

BRING BACK THE JOBS IN AMERICA. MAKE AMERICAN PRODUCTS ON AMERICAN SOIL. THEN MAYBE WE'LL STIMULATE THE ECONOMY SO THAT PEOPLE CAN BUY HOUSES!

I am afraid to go out of the house because I may get hit by a car, drink water from my faucet because of the chemicals, eat any grocery store food because of the preservatives, etc.....  Will it ever end?!

I agree with Patricia we are getting too far from the concept of simple.  We have the ability to find a problem behind every turn.  Even when one is not their.

Sue, Yes Pat hit is on the head, things made overseas cut corners and do not disclose what is being used, until there is some universal guideline that all countries abide by things like this will keep happening.

Those plastic bags we get at stores probably aren't good for us too if it is carries our produce and fresh foods.

Thanks for this post.

Thanks everyone for your comments.  I agree it was a sad day when our American industries started moving overseas and all this imported "stuff" isn't on a par with what used to be produced here in our own country.  Actually a lot of the "stuff" is pathetic and many times out and out dangerous!

Actually, as Dawn said, there isn't much you can do anymore that isn't dangerous -- if you believe everything in the news.  It seems like everything outside and inside your house can do you in!

It would be great if we go back to simpler times when it seemed things made sense.  But, not possible and things just keep getting crazier and crazier.  I had lived overseas for 12 years and loved flying.  Today you couldn't get me on one -- the enjoyment is all gone!

I guess for now...it's better to use the bags offered at the stores...you know the paper or plastic alternative. The newer generation of bags that come out will cost more.
