I have been going to the on the southwest corner of Evans and High since it opened in 1978. After having lived and traveled throughout the Middle East, I know Middle Eastern food and really enjoy making it at home. But honestly, I don't always have the time, and that's when I head down to the Jerusalem Restaurant. To be honest, there are a few dishes that it just doesn't make sense getting out the old food processor for, especially for just for one person. Again, the Jerusalem Restaurant fits the bill.
I recognize that many people favor the Jerusalem Restaurant for vegetarian food, and they do have a great meatless selection on the menu. However, I think that one of my favorites at the Jerusalem Restaurant is the Shawarmah.
Many years ago when my family was living in Saudi Arabia we used to go into Al Kobar (outside of Dhahran) and I would immediately head to King Khalid street and my favorite Shawarmah vendor. Yes, it used to be made out of lamb, and the Jerusalem Restaurant version is made from beef, but I savor it none the less. Either the Shawarmah plate or just the sandwich is great, take your pick. The Jerusalem Restaurant also makes Shawarmah it in chicken too.
Falafel is another one of those dishes that I prefer not to make at home. It is available hot and fresh at the Jerusalem Restaurant along with a wide variety of other dishes.
The Jerusalem Restaurant has received many awards including:
Top of the Town
Best of Denver
Top of the Rockies
Best Midde Eastern Restaurant by Zagats
and many, many more.
