HOME SOLD IN CALVERT COUNTY MD WILL BENEFIT FROM THE "ENERGY STAR" FEATURES.

The beautiful new home in Chesapeake Beach that closed last week was an "ENERGY STAR" home.  The new owner will benefit from the energy efficient features incorporated into the construction and materials for years to come.  I received notice of that benefit AFTER the buyer went to contract.  The builder was approved for the ENERGY STAR designation a short while following the sale.  However, they incorporated these valuable features in my buyers home.  There was no added cost to the buyer.

KEEPING HEAT IN THE HOUSE IS IMPORTANT.  The photo below shows one of the ENERGY STAR features.  Heat is not permitted to escape into attics through the pull-down opening on the upper level.

Attic heat seal

This thermal material heat seal in the attic access is installed.  Access to the attic is easy by simply unzippering the thermal shield.  This is a visible example of the Energy Star features that reduce utility costs for home owners.

I know several builders now who have qualified and incorporated the Energy Star features into their construction.

Barbara.  Indeed.  This builder has incorporated several wonderful features.  I'll post about others in the next week.

Lenn, I've seen the lift up thermal bonnets that people install on hatch openings but a zippered, thermal seal is new to me. People want to be as green s possible to keep home maintenance costs down.

Lenn, I think it is simply smart on a builders part.  Especially in this market.  It helps to give the builder every edge they can get.

Lenn - Thanks for the illustration.  We have some new legislation on energy that goes into effect January 1.  There's always something to learn!

I see attic access ladder seals on one in maybe 1000 houses!  I am not kidding and that is probably an accurate statistic.

Lou.  Indeed it is.

Ed.  Since heat travels up, this feature must save money.

Damon.  Agreed.  I keep a list of "green" builders.

Jack.  I could do without the legislation.  The market would do the job.  This is a fabulous marketing feature.

Jay.  This is the first one I've ever seen.
