There's a lot of opportunity out there.  The reality is that the market cooperates with us sometimes, and quite frankly, it keeps kicking me in the nuts other times.  The real deal is that I keep moving forward.  I Players are Courageousabsolutely hate taking it in the nuts, but, hey, what are you going to do?  times.  Here's what you can do.....'

You can choose

  • to not worry about not being able to control the markets, or

You can choose how you react to what's been given to you!

There was a great post by Leslie Ebersole this past week.  In her post, she talks about getting out of a slump.  Specifically, she said that to get out of a slump you need to get out and do a lot of Buffini work.  Pop bye's and hellos to clients who are desperate to hear from you!  Check out her post at What Do You Do When You're in a Slump? Get Out!.  Great post Les!

Since I can't control the markets, what I can do is get off of your butt and get out.  I think that these markets are tough.  However, I've taken a number of purchase applications recently and am thrilled that I'm able to help people.

Why is this important?Hiding like a turtle gets you nowhere fast!

Specifically for me, I just had a refinance with a great client that blew up.  It wasn't my fault, but to be honest, we couldn't close the deal because of issues with their current lender.  The result was that I spent a little too much time licking my wounds and taking it personally.  As I said, I became a turtle.

I put my stupid little head in a shell and hoped that no one would notice that a deal that I had didn't close, even though it was because of an issue with the current lender.

So....ever so cautiously, I got my head out of the shell and have moved forward.  Guess what?  I just issued a pre-qual letter right now for a client who I had just refinanced two months ago.  They're buying a new home and have decided to buy even if their current house doesn't sell.

Players act.  Pretenders say all of the right things, but there's often very little action.  When they do move, it's a safe move, but those moves are so few and far between that Players are dancing circles around them.  For me....I'd rather be playing on the field than sitting and watching.  My 9 year old told me this over the weekend when referencing someone in sports in the local school.

THEY CALL HIM "JUDGE" BECAUSE HE SPENDS SO MUCH TIME ON THE BENCH!

I'd rather be playing and take my licks than being a pretender....or worse yet, a Judge!

Good point Larry.  I think too many folks are doing just what you mentioned, burying their heads in the sand.  I am with you.  Face it and get on with it.

Have a Happy Thanksgiving!

"You can choose how you react"

I like that and it really is the only thing which we have any control over! Have a great Thanksgiving!

Paula....thanks.....gotta move.  Stuff doesn't just "happen."  It's OK to lick your wounds, but you gotta get up to move forward!

Dan...you're welcome!

Russell.....ditto.  Thanks for stopping by!

Great! It's not how many times you get knocked down. It's how many times you get up.

I help brokers build businesses they love.

Thank You Larry!  As I look around me everyday, it's impossible not to notice that many people in our business feel pretty low right now. Many of our clients are unhappy because of the market and lender difficulties. There are just so many things that we can't control, so when we are continually frustrated we eventually become depressed and can even fall into despair. The best way to overcome these times in your life is to control what you can and enjoy the small successes. A hug from a past client goes a long way to helping me believe I do good work and belong in this business.

I hope you and your family have a wonderful holiday weekend.
