Because of Active Rain I am a Better Realtor®

The blizzards of Realtor LogoDecember '06 hit hard. I was snowed in! No buyers, no sellers and nowhere to go. During that cold, lonely time I found Active Rain and the sun started to shine! Now, 8 months later, Because of Active Rain, I am a better Realtor®.

I found Active Rain from a link I received in one of Sheron Cardin's e-newsletters. Late one cold night, I decided to see just what this site was all about. As it turns out, this site is all about my world as a Realtor®!

Because of Active Rain, I am a better Realtor®. While there is a wealth of knowledge in my office, time is precious and we all tend to keep our noses to the grindstone. I find the education and support I can't live without comes from Active Rain.

I come to Active Rain daily to learn about new trends in the industry from the real professionals working in the trenches. I come to Active Rain to get a good laugh and a dose of reality, sometimes coming in the form of tears. I come to Active Rain to find inspiration and I come to Active Rain to network with my colleagues and to educate my customers. I come to Active Rain to visit with all my new found friends who are there to support me in my business and in my life. When I combine all of these components, the result is - I am a better Realtor®!

Here is a small sampling of what I have taken from Active Rain to make me a better Realtor®:
(I am still learning about linking, etc. so please forgive me if this isn't the correct format to reference other posts - I just want to share some of what I've learned)

I am keeping up with BLOGGING trends and advertizing ideas (and I've even managed to capture a few clients directly from Active Rain leads).
Mariana, Laurie, Jeff

Here are some blog posts by Active Rain members who have directly helped me build my business by sharing knowledge of their own:
Nestor and Katerina , Evy, Amber, William

Sometimes when I've been in a funk, all I need to do is read a few funny posts and I'm back on track.
Chris E.G., Chris H., Marcus

Other times when I'm feeling blue, I find inspirational posts and realize I have nothing to be sad about - gives me a good reality check to get back out there and give back to those I love and care for.
Karen, Bruce, Bob & Cyndi

I am learning about trends and standards in the lending industry and staging techniques:
Jeff, Jessica

When I feel stuck, I can find inspiring posts on business building, personal development and communitiy involvement.
AzizSarah, Dena

Thanks to all the wonderful Localism posts, I'm really seeing this great country of ours through the eyes of the people who live and work all across this land. Thank you all for the beautiful photos and descriptions. I feel as if I get to go on vacation every day. This translates to helping my clients when they need to move out of state.

There is a whole world of amazing ideas and advice here on Active Rain. Each and every day I learn exteremely valuable ideas and facts.

During the cold lonely winter (snow was on the ground from December through April, ugh), I might have thrown in the towel. Without Active Rain, I might not even be a Realtor® anymore.

Chrissy, I have the blizzards to blame/thank as well....It took me a little longer to acutally join/blog - but that time inside was a turning point for my online marketing.

Holy Cow Chrissy,  That post is going to be hard to beat for the contest.  Very well thought out!  Congratulations!

I would have to agree with you Chrissy.  We are among a great group of professionals that really care about helping each other succeed.  It makes such a difference.  I love how trying keep my blog interesting and fresh has caused me to stay more informed with what is happening in my area and staying up to date on real estate conditions.

I'm glad I found AR also. It's a very professional community. Starting my career with a small company I was forced to learn on the field and not have a mentor or somebody to go to for help because my broker's focus is with mortgages. In the 2 years that I've been in the business I've become the Senior Realtor or mentor to everybody else. Had I known about AR when I first started I'm sure things would've been much easier.

Chrissy, Because of bloggers like YOU, Active Rain helps all of us become better Realtors. Thanks for all that you do.

Chrissy,

This is a good addition to the contest, but even more so, I can identify with what you said.  there is so much here.....both knowledge, support, opinions, and fun.  A little bit of everything.....

Steve - For those of us here in Colorado, the blizzards were something out of the ordinary. For those outside Colorado who think it's snowy and cold all the time, not quite true. We enjoy over 300 days of sun per year and usually when it snows, it melts in a day or two. I'm so glad you found Acive Rain then too. Maybe for us it was "Active Snow"!

Shannon -  You are too kind! I just had to share how much this network means to me. Thanks for your kind words!

Gurjit -  Welcome, friend! I hope you experience all the fun and valuable information here. Keep blogging!

Kimberly- It really does make a big difference. It also restores my faith that our business is made up of great people who care for each other and their clients. It's also a great place to make new friends like you!

Mario- Great job on becoming Senior Realtor and mentor in two short years - just think of how much you'll know when you hit the 5, 15, 25 year marks in the business!

Rolando- What kind, encouraging words. It really is because of this great network we can all become better Realtors, lenders, stagers, inspectors, etc.

Kathy- It's like coming to the most indulgent buffet. There's always so great food to choose from, so we keep coming back!

Jo-Anne - You're welcome! Thanks for commenting. It seems like I could have spent all night last night linking to many of my favorite articles, but hopefully this is a good taste of what's out there. Happy Reading!

Kris- WOW - that's a huge compliment coming from you! Thanks so much. I look forward to reading more of your great and informative posts.

Ines- I've told you before, but I'll share again. When I first joined AR, you were the first person to welcome me and show me the ropes -it immediately made me feel part of a great community. Thank you. Active Rain makes us all better Realtors!

Thanks for the mention! A.R. has been a blessing for many of us. And because of A.R. I have somebody to refer to in the Boulder Longmont area.

Chrissy,

AR has been great for those of us who are not realtors but in real estate related fields. I have learned a lot in the few weeks I have been on here, and I've got to tell you, I have gained a great deal of respect for the knowledge that realtors have. You folks work hard!!

09/09/2007 09:31 PM by Diane Adler

Chrissy - Thanks for your entry.  I'll make my comments after the winner is announced.

09/10/2007 05:40 AM by Adam Waldman - Long Island REALTOR® (RE/MAX Best)

Chrissy, weren't you on Three's Company? Oh, that was another blond. OK.

I wish we had a blizzard or something I could use to "excuse" all the time I spend on AR. Lucky you.

And I am sure you are right. You are better because of ActiveRain. We all are.

Dena- I learn so much from you and I love your pictures of our great state. I value your friendship and I'm glad I met you here!

Diane- Thank you so much! I look forward to getting to know you from your writings here at AR!
 Thanks for the compliment!

Adam- I'm so glad you've all initiated some more contests. I've always been too shy to do it, but this was a subject I'm passionate about - thanks for the topic! Enjoy reading the entries after the contest - they're a great bunch!

Bill -  LOL! You don't need an excuse to spend time on AR - unless you're like me and losing sleep because you're having so much fun! I'm sure you're a better Realtor too - thanks for the comment!

09/10/2007 09:11 PM by Chrissy Harrison (ERA Tradewind Real Estate)

Chrissy, my guess is that you were already a pretty good one anyway, but there is so much information on AR that you can't help but get better, whatever level you started at.

09/10/2007 11:30 PM by Summit County, Colorado Realtor l Joanne Hanson (Coldwell Banker Colorado Rockies Real Estate)

Joanne- Thanks for your nice compliment! I would agree that in using AR, one can become a better Realtor®, no matter what level of experience you are. I just had two very seasoned agents in our office asking me about AR, it's not just for newbies!

09/11/2007 10:34 PM by Chrissy Harrison (ERA Tradewind Real Estate)

CHRISSY:  Maybe it's the addict in me, but the picture that you painted of you blogging in the blizzard made me long for snow on a beautiful fall day on Long Island.  I think that being here makes us all better because we get to experience so many different viewpoints.  It's a place for validation and support, and constructive criticism.  I continue to discover new people to learn from, and it seems that you've built up a pretty good base of people to turn to.  Hopefully, you'll be around here more often even though the contest is over.  We can always use another dedicated professional sharing what they have to offer.  Thanks for entering the contest, Chrissy.

09/14/2007 02:54 PM by Adam Waldman - Long Island REALTOR® (RE/MAX Best)

Chrissy - we are better too because of your involvement with AR and that million dollar smile.:)

I'm late to the party, Chrissy, but just wanted to thank you for the honorable mention!  You put me in with some great company! :)

10/10/2007 10:23 AM by Amber Riviere (411 Real Estate Place & Cenla Moves, LLC)

Adam -  Sorry to be re-responding so late to this one, I'm not sure how I overlooked it! Anyway, thanks for being a great moderator and for getting me off my butt to enter a contest. I continue to enjoy learning about this business while gaining friendships and having support. Thanks!

Aziz -  Same to you - Your smile is one in a million! :)

Amber- Better late than never! Things just wouldn't be the same around here without you.
