A big "thank you" to my friend Stacy for beginning this wonderful tradition of making gingerbread houses as a group. When my kids were younger, a group of us met at Stacy's home to make these delicious, edible creations. Each family had to bring their own half-gallon milk carton, a piece of cardboard covered in tinfoil, and a candy to share with the group. Our hostess, Stacy, would provide the homemade frosting, graham crackers, and workspace...which extended from the kitchen, into the breakfast room and family room. (Stacy was a brave soul... :) ) Here's how the kids made a simple gingerbread house.
1. Cut the bottom off the milk carton to make the desired height of your house. The top of the carton will be your roof.
2. Press in the protruding circle part to make the roof level.
3. Cover your carton with a generous amount of frosting.
4. Stick the graham crackers to the frosting forming your "gingerbread" house.
5. Cover crackers with additional frosting and begin sticking various candy pieces onto the frosting.
***The creations the kids made were amazing...and of course, they are edible!!! Have a wonderful holiday season!!!
