Last week was 'one of those weeks'....it seemed like not much could go right.  It was topped off on Friday with a 'heavy discussion' with one of my good friends and my top previous client.  I love this person dearly...it was not an argument but was a heated talk and we never did come to a meeting of the minds on it (although I let her go away thinking she was right).  It's ok to think differently but she doesn't/didn't think that way on this topic.

Anyway...Friday night we had the opportunity to go out with friends for dinner and then onto a Joel Osteen program at the UNLV Thomas and Mack Center.  UNLV Thomas and Mack

Along with another 15,000 people we listened to some great, uplifting christian music, heard some awesome testimonials, and then heard a very uplifting message.  It sure helped calm my shattered nerves.  It was a great evening.  I came away feeling re-energized after a harrowing week.

If you are not familiar I would encourage you to visit his web site at http://www.joelosteen.com/.  He is the preacher of one of the largest churches in the United States.  Lakewood Church is located near Houston Texas.  His messages are always uplifting, encouraging and Biblically-based.

healing fieldsSaturday I woke up ready to go get 'em....I spent some quality time with my husband....visiting the Healing Fields... there were almost 3,000 flags, one for each person who lost their life on 9/11/01 - a card was attached to each flag with the name of a person who died and a little history about them.  It was an awesome reminder of what we went through that day. And then a couple hours later we found ourselves at a oasis away from the desert heat of Las Vegas...we traveled up to Mount Charleston.  It is a 45 minute drive from downtown Las Vegas and is 6,000+ feet up.  The temperatures run 30-40 degrees cooler than in the valley.  There's not a lot to do but there are cabins, camping, a Hotel, and a charming lodge at the top of the mountain.  We ate a late lunch sitting by a window and watching th humming birds  drinking from the feeders, there must of been a dozen of them.  We sat and ate (window seat) and basked in the beauty of the pine trees, the mountains, the unadulterated beauty of the area.  A couple days stay would have been real nice but a few responsibilities seem to be in the way of doing that at this time....jobs, a wedding, life calls.  Maybe after the wedding or after the first of the year. Latter this week I will blog about this awesome getaway from the heat of Las Vegas for a VERY SHORT drive.  A day trip, an afternoon trip, an overnight trip....any ol' way I think you will find fantastic.

I am glad your weekend ended on a high note.  Joel Olsteen is a very good speaker and I too always feel better after listening to him.

Mary, sounds like your day started off tense but ended very soulfully. Can't wait to hear about the day and weekend trips as well as the impending wedding!
