Just Wondering---Why are Points Awarded for Posting Listings?

Remember, I am a Massachusetts real estate attorney. I work with Buyers and Sellers, but I have no listings. It is almost a certainty that I never will. I have scratched and clawed my way to a pretty high position on the Massachusetts point gatherers. I will never, ever, catch the two or three leaders, and that is just fine for me. They mix their listings with posts that have content. if that gives them an advantage over me, so be it. This is a site for, mainly, Realtors. I get it.

On the other hand, there are a lot of Realtors on ActiveRain who generously give is ideas, approaches and wisdom that is helpful in our craft. I truly believe that that is the purpose of a blog-site. Share your wisdom and experiences with others. Enter into dialogues which, in the end, will be beneficial to all concerned.

I am not against having listings on ActiveRain. Listings gets information to many of us. My question is "why should listings deserve Active Rain points?" If anything, people should perhaps be required to use points earned by writing posts to post listings. Perhaps, I am all wet her. But, I honestly don't get it.

I'm with you, Elliot.  The answer I got was some agents pay to be here, and if they should be able to promote themselves and get points.  I dont buy it.  Especially if that's all they do is regurgetate their listings one by one,  over and over again.  There are people here that only ost their listings, have no featured listings and by only doing that they do not offer any substance, and for all of us who blog our ittlle fingers off, share information, forge bonds with people, etc. blogging listings for points with no featured listings let alone not being a shot master, is something I'm with you on. :) Happy Thanskgiving

Howdy and evening to you Elliott

Elliott, its sure something that I have wondered about my self. The only thing that I can come up with, it must have to do with the folks that started the community. Had owned their own Real Estate company before starting the AR community.

Have a good one

Even without listings to post, there is so much good content that can be posted here for points.  There are agents on this site who are exclusive buyers agents and who see the value of participating on ActiveRain.

Because it is not only a real estate site for realtors, but also for consumers, buyers will not only want to see advice, but listings, I would think...

Elliott, by nature and birth I am one who tries to make everything fair to all, and now I feel bad that I never thought of this, LOL. (Libra, scales of justice, balance, on and on) Please don't make me feel guilty when I post a listing..... please....

But I see your point. Perhaps we need another catagory for those non agents here to post something we can't... not sure what that could be, but if I think of it I will let you know.

Happy Thanksgiving!

Elliot, just fabricate a listing every once in a while, but make it really spectacular, like a castle with turrets and a moat with crocodiles. If someone calls you on it, just tell them it's sold already.

I help brokers build businesses they love.

I'm a huge proponent of putting them off to the side, preferably in a place where there is a managed feed rather than manually entered data.

And I DON'T think this a real estate agent site. It's a real estate site. I subscribe to more attorneys, home inspectors, lenders and home stagers than Realtors....so there!
