On Thanksgiving Day, we celebrate the gathering of Pilgrims - early settlers of the Plymouth Colony in Massachusetts - and American Indians in the bountiful harvest of seasonal food. Approximately 90 Wampanoag American Indians partook, including their chief, Massasoit. |
Thanksgiving Day is sometimes casually referred to as "turkey day." It is expected that 242 million turkeys will be raised in the U.S. in 2010. That's down 2% from the number raised during 2009. |
The turkeys produced in 2009 together weighed 7.1 billion pounds and were valued at $3.6 billion dollars, according to the USDA National Agricultural Statistics Service! Wishing you all, Blessed and Happy Thanksgiving Day! Adam |
