Football Sunday and away we go

NE PatriotsHere we go again another season starts and the New England Patriots have been picked by many analysts to go to the Super Bowl once again. I am sure the Indianapolis Colts will have something to say about that. The Patriots last year ran out of gas in the second half against the Colts as playing in the dome just wore them out.

This week the Patriots open up their season against their division rivals the New York Jets.

They will be playing in the Meadowlands and will face a very tough Jets team that saw their Super Bowl run squashed  by these same Patriots back in January as the Patriots won  37-16.

The Patriots have really beefed up their receiving corp by adding Wes Welker who joined the Patriots as a free agent from the Miami Dolphins. When he was with the Dolphins I used to cringe every time he touched the ball. I guess the Patriots front office felt the same way as they were able to acquire him and he will be a terrific addition to the Pats.

They also added All Pro bad boy Randy Moss who has been hampered with a hamstring injury during pre-season.  His presence if healthy will surely attract a lot of attention from opposing defenses and this will hopefully free up another wide out that the Patriots picked up too in Donte Stallworth. Stallworth joined the Patriots as a free agent from New Orleans and is a deep threat as Tom (I'm a new dad)Brady should have a few great targets to lead the Patriots to another victory. Tom Brady is 21 and 1 on turf and this game will make it 22-1.

Ron, you aren't still whining about the tuck rule are you? I too thought the Jets would have played a lot better. Oh well there is always next week. Eagles aren't the same w/o TO. LOL

Carole, Steelers played well but does anyone really care? LOL

I am bummed about the Browns as I loved their head coach when he was in N.E.

I missed this first half while holding an open house but I was able to watch the second half:).  I couldn't believe all the empty seats or it looked like it anyway.  I'll have to remember that for next year and make a road trip to the Meadowlands.  Go Pats!

Ron, the Browns are a shame and the Steelers have yet to prove themselves.

Oh yea, and do you remember the call that went against the Pats back on Dec. 18, 1976? Fumble ya right...LOL

What's your take on the RUMOR of video-taping the opposing signs?  (CNN was reporting and is against league rules...)

RUMOR.....??????

It is against the rules.  I thought they already decided to take a first round pick from the Pats.

It's a WEAK punishment by the league as the Pats have two 1st round picks next year.

Billichek should have been suspended for the year, minimum.

I heard the story in passing (no pun intended there...)  The league seems to be rather passive when it comes to punishment...

Debbie, if it's against the rules then it's against the rules and league policy will dictate what punishment was deserved. In this case Belichick was fined $500,000.00 + the team was fined $250,000.00 + if they make the playoffs they will lose their first round draft pick next year and if they don't make the playoffs they lose their 2nd and 3rd round picks.

The 500K fine is the highest the league can fine. So, he pretty much got the maximum.

A lot of opposing fans I'm sure will not be happy but the decision has been made and according to Belichick it is in the past and he won't speak about it.

A LOT of fans are pissed. (Can I use that word?).

The dude got CAUGHT authorizing cheating by his own staff.  Something's out of kilter here.

The $$$ is nothing to Mr. Bill.  He'll pay the fine and not discuss it.  Like BILL, WHAT IN ALLAH'S NAME WERE YOU THINKING?????????  Stinkin' loser.

I don't think the penalty is enough.... I vote for LIFETIME suspension, that should hit him where it hurts!

I've heard quite a few fans from other teams say that exact same thing. I don't think the FINE is much of a punishment as it becomes relative to how much a guy's worth.  If the waterboy was fined that much.. WOWZERS........ but BILL?  Heck, Strahan on the Giants skipped training camp because he didn't feel like 2 a days and paid a half mil. (it may have been reduced).

A BAN would send a message.  The only message here is....... make sure you have some cash if you want to cheat.

The worst part is he is claiming it was all a matter of mis-interpretation of the rules. What part of NO VIDEO TAPING ON THE SIDELINES did he not understand, as the league just before the season addressed this issue. He is a GREAT coach but he has forever ruined his reputation as that GREAT coach. There was no need to do what he did.

Ron and Debbie, with a new commissioner it was his decision for this type of punishment and he feels this type of punishment was enough.

The players are not happy and with a big game Sunday night I wonder how that will affect the players.

GO STEELERS I say.  Though, you can't argue with the Patriots, yet this whole thing with tampering with the system I just heard about.  I'm a traditionalist of sorts, I would prefer the outcome of the game to be played on the field and not from the sidelines.  Throw all the other crap aside and let's play.  I think you may be correct Jay, the image will be tarnished.

Good morning Jason, it's a shame it happened and as much as I am a Patriots fan I think Belichicks arrogance will be his down fall. The way he treats the media is unbelievable. When the Pats head out on the road no matter where they play they will be harassed and heckled.

In my humble opinion, the whole mess stinks!  The focus has moved from the field, where the game SHOULD be played; that's why the players get the BIG BUCKS!  I'm holding to the lifetime ban

GO 'HAWKS!
