September 7, the first Friday of September, was a perfect late summer evening for a celebration of downtown Lancaster!  Temperatures in the high 70s and a soft, almost imperceptible breeze made for a most pleasant outdoor atmosphere, and Lancastrians took full advantage of the city's First Fridays program.

First Friday

Cafes on North Queen and North Prince Streets were open for business with tables out by the sidewalks, and people took full advantage of the pleasant weather to have a light repast and watch the passers-by.

Street musicians were out in force, from Caribbean rhythms to folk, jazz and blues guitarists.

Patricia, the Bird in Hand Fire Company may be the only ox roast around, but all of eastern Lancaster County is known for the great Pennsylvania Dutch food!

I don't miss the cold up in PA, but some of the festivals are fun & rich in history!

Great chance for many to have fun and gaves businesses the opportunity to make some additional sales.  Looks like there was something for everyone especially where music was concern.

Ronald, you would have been totally pleased with the Pennsylvania weather last Friday!  Did you used to live in PA?

Jennifer, it's a great program, fun for everyone and it boosts the local businesses, too. There was definitely enough musical variety for everyone, but also a lot of  galleries and boutiques - next time, I'll try to report a little more on them.

Jo, there's one scheduled for October.  There are special events scheduled for colder weather, but the schedule doesn't show any First Fridays past October for 2007.

Good photos, Brian - we had our Dissinger family reunion this weekend - no way we could do the Fridays event this month.

It was, Hayes.  It reminded me a little of the atmosphere of Greenwich Village in NYC in the '60s.
