7 Comments on Closing a Credit Card Account will help your credit score. TRUE OR FALSE?
This is a common problem with people trying to help their credit score. They think that if they close that account, it'll help because it won't be there to tempt them. While true, it also totally screws up your ratios (as you said) and can truly do some damage to your credit.
Lanre,
thanks for the information as well some great timiing. The graph is very helpful for us visual learners. I was under the impression that closing an account was a good thing as well. Live and learn indeed.
But what's the impact of having too many cards that you don't use? Great timing with the post.
Good explanation of a subject usually misunderstood by the public. Given the majority of our customers need good credit to purchase a home, your post is on target.
Very helpful, timely post, Lanre. Understanding credit is imperative and your excellent post explains one of the pitfalls to avoid. Thanks.
What a timely post for everyone to take into account. It's great to give gifts but at what expenses.
The other issue with closing credit cards is the length of credit history portion of the score. If you close a card you've had for awhile there goes all those years of good credit.
