Why I Subscribe to You? Why I Unsubscribe!!!!!

Right out of the gate let me say this.  I love Active Rain.  I love the relationships that have been created here on Active Rain.  I love the fact that I've received 66 referrals since joining Active Rain!!!!!  I just love it!  What's not to like really?

I would never have had even the first referral had I not built relationships and trust.

For me, the crux of the relationship building begins through reading a good post or two by one author and then "subscribing" to them.

WHAT MAKES ME SUBSCRIBE TO YOU?

A few important things.

  1. You don't need to subscribe to me in order for me to subscribe to you.  But if you do subscribe to me, then I'll pay more attention to you.  It's only natural, If someone pays attention to me, I all of a suddent take notice.  I've been ignoring you, not on purpose, but just cuz I've been too darn busy;
  2. I'm subscribing to you because I've read one or two posts by you that are awesome to me!  Maybe I want to subscribe to you...not delete youit your humor.  Maybe it's the educational value that you're giving me.  Maybe it's just the interesting way that you wrote that particular post.  What it isn't though.....is another listing.  I understand the importance of getting listings out there.  I may even comment on your listing, but I'm not subscribing to you because of your listing.
  3. You entice me.  You're seductive in some sort of way.  It's the way you write, what you write, the quality of your posts and just your personality.
  4. You are writing more than a few words.  There are some folks who I like, but the content is so short, that I often wonder if they'll ever be able to convey the full message.  I could name some names here, but for obvious reasons I won't.  I have some fellow rainers who I like a lot, but their posts are so short that I'm like "why bother."  I don't need a dissertation, but I would really like to have a little meat with my meal.

WHY WE'RE GOING TO BREAKUP RIGHT NOW

What's the name of that great country song?  Oh yeah.......

"How can I miss you if you won't leave?"

  1. Those first few posts that I followed were just awesome.  But since them, all I'veDon't make me hit the UNSUBSCRIBE button! seen from you are a bunch of posts that just had listings with nothing else.  BORING!  Time do move onto the next girl!
  2. You quit posting.  This is a biggee for me.  There are so many people who are awesome.  I'm in love with their blogging abilities.  I'm amazed at the fact that they're truly better than me.  I'm in.  I've been following you for months or even a year or two and then it happens......  Like Michael J. Fox in Back to the Future....."Yo McFly, Light's on, but nobody's home?"  I'm not dumping you because you haven't posted in weeks *unless it happens all the time."  Burnout happens and people need to recharge their batteries.  I've done it a couple of times in my Active Rain career, but if weeks stretch into months, I'm gonna have to press that dreaded "unsubscribe" button.  It breaks my heart because I've done this so many times with people who I adore.  But your busines is build on consistency.  If you're not even showing up, it's time to you to find another boyfriend.

Larry, I think we do subscribe when we want to stay abreast of an interesting writer. Some people with the stopping blogging do go away and then come back.

I seldom unsubscribe from inactive people because they just remain at the bottom of the queue if they are not posting any updates.

Tni....OK

Cindy....thanks for the comments.  I"m a banker and an attorney....NOT A MORTGAGE BROKER.  I WOULD NEVER BE ONE OF THOSE...EVER!  Anyway, there are a lot of reasons for the success, but I draw very little from Chicago.  It's a blast though.  I'll connect with you one on one whenever!  All the best.  I root against the Bears and am an avid Packer Backer, but I do like Peyton and your Colts.  Classy team!

Eric.....huh??????

Steven....it's always between the lines!

Aaron....89% of my leads don't come from realtors.  I do offer a lot of deals to my realtor partners, but I'll state this clearly.....very few deals come through a realtor.  The market has swayed.  I give contracts to my realtors.  The paradigm has shifted and it's imperative that you have an ability to generate deals.  A.R. is one for me.  However, in your defense.....there's no way that I can argue against blah leads.  Blah leads stink.  Anyway, I'd keep tweaking it until you get what you want.  Just my .02 cents.  Remember, it took me 7 months to get my first lead.  Don't get discourgaged bud, just keep playing until you get your recipe perfected!

Gary....you're a patient man!

Karen....I checked my blog subscriptions with a very real nervousness looking for you.  I haven't dropped you.  I consider you a core piece of my diet.  I pray that all is going well with your recovery!  All the best bud!

J.P.....you're a better man than me.  I'm anal about controling my looks.  If you're dead, you're out!

Good posts,

I try and build a relationship with people that I like to read and they like to read me. I agree the people who I see comment on a regular basis get my comments. I'm also looking for quality.

I find that as long as I write compelling content, I'll get regular readers and hopefully a few leads.  In the end, that's what matters.

And those 66 referrals came from those people with the listings??? OH you know prospecting is about keeping in touch with people, ups and downs and unsubscribed, maybe they'll find someone else to refer.  It doesn't hurt to keep a subscription to see when they start up again, right?

forgot to mention, I never really "unsubscribe" to anyone...Not sure how I would decide...if they are not posting, they sorta fade away..

I do hate all those listings being posted, but I believe it appears here so that it can appear on the public side which of course is very helpful to our sellers..

I've unsubscribed to Groups before that were not monitored or the leader disappeared. Recently I hit the delete key on someone that I followed for a long time that changed their affiliation. I was sending my own 'secret' message there. Not interested in being connected with that company WHAT SO EVER. My own private protest I guess.

Blogging is not like an action movie - I think that we are so addicted to action or constant contact that when someone takes a breather, we get upset.  I'm not going to follow that line of thought. There are also people that were great that just plain disappear!

Larry, I have so many people that don't blog here anymore that I need to unscribe too. I hate to do it as I am afraid I will lose  total contact with them. I do have some that like you said, had a few good posts and then just started reblogging...boring.

Your post made me wonder about life before the Internet.....All those points and opinions stayed mostly in people and their outlets were far and few....Now, enter ActiveRain and similar outposts and you have for quite an interesting gathering and sharing of thoughts....Most enjoyable.....

Hi Larry, thanks for a review of what it means to be a good blogger. I really enjoyed the following sentence: "But your busines is build on consistency.  If you're not even showing up, it's time to you to find another boyfriend." Funny! Best, Leah

Larry,

I am still subscribed to people from years ago. Some have left the business, some come back every once in awhile.  I am always hoping to see them again.

There are many people here, including myself, who sometimes just comment for months without doing a blog.  Then then feel a need to blog.

I want to know if they did, even if I don't read it for a couple of months!

Does that make me a Hoarder? lol
