Motivational Power Quote

Knowing When To Say No

"Success depends on getting good at saying

no without feeling guilty.

You cannot get ahead with your own goals if

your always saying yes to someone else's projects.

You can only get ahead with your desired lifestyle

if you are focused on the things that will produce that lifestyle."

Jack Canfield, author and success coach

As I see it. . . . . . . .

Knowing when to say no

There are many demands on our time and we are continuously being pulled in many directions.  Some of the things that we're being asked to do will help us in our career while other things are just the right thing to do. While other things that we're asked to do will become distracters on our success journey.

We have to know what to say yes to and when we have to say no.

When we are asked to accept a task we have to ask our self the following questions. Is it the best use of my time to undertake the task now? What is the positive impact on my life, my career and will it bring me closer to my goals? If the answer to the questions is yes then taking action will have positive an impact on achieving our goals?

If the answer is yes it becomes a proactive activity that will assist us to continue to move closer to success, fulfilling our goals and dreams then we should strongly consider to doing the activity.

If the answer to the question is a no because  we can see our self being distracted and we can see ourselves being moved further away from our goals as a result of the activity then answer to the activity is no.

Knowing when to say no is by itself an activity. It becomes an activity of controlling your life's direction through your decisions and maximizing your activities to have a positive impact on your life and career and in achieving your goals.

I agree. The funny thing is that if it feels wrong, test out saying 'no' - it's true - the world does not stop turning!

Lou, This is a quote we can all learn from - "knowing when to say no it by itself an activity."  Learning to say no is hard for some to learn, but it's something to work on.

I hope you are enjoying a long holiday weekend.

Good advice. I always question a persons leadership capabilities, if they try to please everyone, all the time, and can't say no.

Sometimes No is the correct answer, however, it's not always easy to determine what to say no to and what to say yes to, so I like the added layer of questions to ask yourself.

No only hurts once, well sometimes two or three times.

The point is if you can do and if not NO

It's hard for a lot of folks to learn this magical word.  No can be the most liberating word when used correctly!

Sometimes it is really difficult to say no if it's a project that is close to your heart. But, it is important to question whether or not this is something that will be good for you or if at this time in your life, you can do it.

I do agree with saying "no" when appropriate. But also success means

not listening to "no". That is a word that I do not like to hear...maybe,

later, someday....but not no!

The art of saying "no" is an essential tool necessary for success. The ability to choose is more difficult to grasp. Great reminder that saying "no" is not necessarily negative but it is essential!

Hi Lou,

NO: such a little word that can come with so much guilt...

It is not easy to say NO but it is necessary to learn how and when to say NO.

Lou, your comment echoes something a learned last week.  That we have to be able to say "NO" in order to succeed.
