THE LOVE HATE RELATIONSHIP WITH BANKS.Lenn

I love this post by Tni LeBlanc.  Finding humor when we are helpless and sometimes hopeless is a fine art indeed.

And if you don't hate that bank today, you surely will tomorrow.  The traditional "love hate relationship" is alive and well.  Enter into a short sale transaction as a listing agent, selling agent, buyer or seller, and you will learn to hate that bank.  The bank on the other hand, LOVES the tax money they were handed by the government to perpetuate their inefficiencies and exercise of raw power.

And all it took was a few "measly handouts from the banks to a few Congressmen".  Congressmen work cheap, don't they??

Confessions of a Short Sale Agent: I Already Hate Your Bank

I know you hate your bank.  They've taken you through hell.  You're thinking about:

•·         That crappy loan and the insane interest rate adjustment
•·         The no-doc loans they sold that sunk your neighborhood home values
•·         The robo-call reminders to make your payment on the 2nd of the month
•·         All that bail out money they got and the down payment you'll never get back
•·         The way they toyed with you about a loan modification

So now you are thinking of a short sale and you think no one could hate your bank more.  But, you're wrong.  I hate your bank, already.  Although you hate your bank, you can't possibly hate them more than me.  I hate them all day long.  You go to work, come home, and hate your bank at night and on the weekends.  But not me, I wake up in the morning, and I hate your bank.   I go to bed at night, and I hate your bank.

And, I especially hate your bank during business hours.  You know how they said they lost your paperwork?  When they pull the same thing during your short sale, I'll be right there, hating them for you.  I can re-fax it to all of their 15 secret fax numbers with the flick of my wrist.  I can call back tomorrow and the next day with my date stamped fax receipt.  When they incorrectly value your home, I can flood them with a slew of market information that will make them shudder.  When they make a short sale offer that does not relieve you of all personal responsibility for the debt, I'll let them know how we do things in California.  And why?  Because I hate them - - that's what I do.

I already know what they've done to your friend, your neighbor, and to you.  And, although the bank loves dealing with you, they hate dealing with me.  Because, they know I hate them, already. . .

Wow. Those are some really strong sentiments. I do get pretty frustrated, but not sure I have felt that strongly.

Melissa.  Indeed my sentiments are strong.  The utter callousness with which the banks treats consumers is, IMO, considering the advantages the banks have and the power they wield with short sales invokes strong sentiments.

Normally, a business could simply say, "It's just business".  However, when they are in the process of destroying the financial life of a borrower and the concomitant harm to our economy, strong feelings just come naturally.

The fact that this information is so widely known and yet the congress continues to look the other way is the real problem. I don't understand why NAR isn't addressing this situation, it would be alot more useful than billboards telling people to use Realtors...go figure

The banks and failures of the lending institutions need to be at the TOP of the agenda for new congress

Gerry.  It's an enigma to me too.  Perhaps the NAR doesn't want to risk losing all of those bank owned property listings.

Wallace.  Well.. . . . . .  I just won't hold my breath.  I know one thing.  If anyone drags out Phil Gramm, Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act, I'll have to crank out a few letters reminding them of the Gramm/Leach legislation that gave the banks and Wall Street gants the cover for what they did to our economy.

I knew that anything Obama did was going to be worthless when I saw Phil Gramm sitting beside him in one of those "bi-partisan" meetings.  GEEZ!

They think we're all stupid.

I gave up all hope for McCain when he brought Gramm in as an economic advisor.  That showed me that McCain has no knowledge about the economy.

With all of the mortgage information the banks lose, or misplace, why dosen't it ever happen with the records showing the homeowner is delinquent? Something to think about!

Lenn,

Thanks for the re-blog, I'm really flattered.  I must admit this one came straight from my heart after another member encouraged me to let my own personality show through in my public blogs.

I have always defended people from bullies (even in grade school), it's a natural inclination of mine, so short sale work comes naturally.  When I take a short sale listing and my clients detail what the bank has already put them through before I got to their door, I let them know they don't have to waste their energy hating the banks anymore -- that's my job now.

Lenn - Having followed your writing since the mid-90's on RealTalk  until today, it comes as no great surprise that you "have an opinion!"  What's different between yours and many others, is there is logic and passion behind it!  Thanks for continuing to be part of the "debate..."  Net up on the horizon ... SBA loans ... I had a local bank tell me that they would consider a short sale for a business opp ... and whatever they lost, the government would cover!  That may have been the light going on for me ... in many cases if the loan is insured, the bank has little vested interest in any kind of "agreement" and certainly no sense of urgency!  What a great "can't lose" position!  Thanks for reposting ... On my way to comment on Tni's original post.

Jon.  Ah the infamous "bank black hole".  I haven't experienced it that much because I deal with few loan officers.  But, I've heard the horrow stories.

Bill.  Except, of course, for my little local bank that refused TARP money, is in the black and few loan in the 30 day delinquent area.

Jack.  Ah!  Good old RealTalk.  That's where I got my feet wet on the Internet talk road.  Love it.  I love ActiveRain more.  If ActiveRain ever goes under, we still have RealTown to go to, I think.  Haven't dropped in there for a while.  Must do that tomorrow.

Lenn, the relationship is similar to a bad marriage, only here there is no judge or lawyer it's teh government that steps in to protect the banks. The next couple of years are going to be so interesting

My bank was bought over the summer.  The new bank just started being "the" bank.

Yesterday I fired them...

Lenn, thanks for bringing attention to this wonderful post. I think that hate being a politically incorrect word to use makes it that much more approriate. Right now, the word "hate" is underrated, and should be promoted in certain circumstances. Healthy Hate- the new catch phrase.

Jay.  HA!  I did the same thing when one of my banks was bought by PNC which took $7.5Billion TARP and bought another bank.

Lenn, Congressmen do work cheap. Power, money, greed, all taken without a soul or a conscience. I hate banks too! It’s shameful that the government is taking more (realistic) measures to stop the insanity. But then again, why would they? It would only be helping the little people who pay their fat salaries.
