Today's Newsday, Long Island's local newspaper, ran a great article about the community called the American Venice located on the border of Copiague and Lindenhurst on the south shore of Long Island. And it just happens to be the neighborhood I live in! I was so pleased to finally learn the history of the community that we have come to enjoy since moving here almost 2 years ago. In particular, there are the remains of what once was a beautiful gazebo constructed on an island at the head of the canal that we overlook. I always wondered what was once there. What I found equally as intriguing was the history behind the original developers of the area and their vision to recreate Venice here on Long Island. Complete with gondolas! What a wonderful time it must have been when in the 1920's this community was built to reflect the romance and architectural detail of such a unique European city. I'm thrilled to live in such a culturally distinct community. I even use the two winged lion columns (replicas of ones at Piazza San Marco in Venice) as landmarks to locate our street when giving directions.

I had a listing in the area 46 W. Saltaire - I left Coldwell Banker Matherson so I left that listing with that office.

Anyhow - yes that is a great area. So beautiful and friendly!

I read this article! I thought it was a great promotion for the area. Since I have a closing today and tomorrow for homes in the American Venice ... I enjoy the area too!
