Real Agents Drink Starbucks

This is a quick one.  I am writing a new article and need your help with an analogy.  Just a simple yes or no would do but feel free to comment.

I love Starbucks.  Although, I'm not so much of a junkie to use their lingo of tall, grande, or vente.  I always order lattes because I don't care for their regular coffee.  In fact I have heard very few people ever drink just their coffee.

My question to you is this:  Do you believe that Starbucks coffee is over-roasted (too dark)?

The payoff for you is a great article which I am currently working on and of course you'll also get your Active Rain points!  Thanks for the help Active Rainers!

I dont speak the lingo either and of course they look at me like I have 4 heads without a brain between them....But I'll take the not so dark extra large frozen drink please;)

Yes.  Their coffee is roasted too much.  But, it's fine for me.  It's not what I buy for home but I'm O.K. with it from Starbucks.

Of course, I rarely buy it unless they have a Maple Nut Scone left.

I can drink about any type of coffee as long as it's not too weak or not over 28 hours old.

Matthew, I actually prefer Starbucks over roasted coffer and buy it even for my house.  I like it STRONG!  I'm also guilty of knowing the lingo, and even more ashamed to admit that I can even order a drink in the correct order...you know...Triple Venti Nonfat Caramel Macchiato.  Sad, I know!

Heh- Dont ask me - My employer pre-Real Estate was with Starbucks.

Still a junkie - love the bucks.  Starbucks is actually more 'real coffee' than the watered down; light Americanized versions.  Drink coffee in Europe and you will see that Sbux is like what coffee was meant to be,

Grande; non-fat; Caramel Macchiatio,  Thanks!

Half caf vente soy latte please...it rolls off my tongue every time I order it.  ; )

Don't drink their coffee or anyone else's for that matter. I never aquired the taste for any of it. Guess that really doesn't help with your survey though?

It's way over roasted, and I love it! But not diluted or with anything added at all. I do not speak Starbucks, so I just order a "large black coffee".

In my opinion, Starbucks is over-roasted, over-priced, and over-rated. I rarely drink it, and only when I have received a gift card at a tour openhouse.

I live in Seattle - it's hard not to visit a Starbucks on a weekly basis.  I order tea vs coffee.  Starbucks has a great Chai Tea Latte.

I always order a tall house blend, 1 cream, 1 sugar. Pretty daring. Don't think it's over roasted though and I'm not a barrista so I don't pay attention to the prep, just the result. I also like their Ethiopian when available. That one keeps me going for awhile.

WAY over roasted.  It doesn't make for strong coffee - it makes for a burned coffee.  We have one Starbucks in Juneau (in a Safeway) but we have several Heritage Coffee houses.  That's our local coffee roasting company.  I drink it at home, prefer it on the road, and occasionally spring for a bag for the office.  Starbucks is way over rated.  Cruise ship visitors take home bags of our local coffee which as you can tell I'm partial to.  Starbucks tastes like it's been in the pot for too long even when it's supposedly fresh.

I love Starbucks coffee, and they are responsible for causing me to acquire a taste for dark-roasted coffee.  I started out many, many years ago on my coffee journey at the low-end and bottom of the barrel; instant coffee!  Then I moved up to drip, Folgers, from there I went to Maxwell House, then Yuban, and so forth.  I used to actually be just fine with Denny's coffee.  Then along came Starbucks, with their cool paint colors, mood lighting, and scientific explanations about why they do what they do and that was it!  My cheap coffee days were over. They spoiled me -- no more weak or inferior coffee.  All that being said, Trader Joe's coffee is my Coffee of Choice for home brewing.

I haven't ever just had their coffee, it is always a "medium" cafe mocha.  I can't see spending that much on just coffee,  it needs to be exciting and sophisticated drink to feel as if I am getting my moneys worth!  LOL

Matthew,

The coffee is not over roasted. It is roasted to a specific flavor profile. Depending on the beans, blend and desired final usage. For many the taste of Starbucks Coffee is too darkly roasted. Compared to major grocery store brands this is easy to understand. Compared to other gourmet roasters SBUX is easily in the middle of the pack when it comes to dark roasting.

All that being said my favorite is a Venti Americano no room. =) If I am enjoying coffee while not on the run I prefer Italian Roast made in a French Press.

Best,

Scott

I'm a hard core black coffee (no cream, no sugar) drinker so it has to be really good coffee.  Starbucks is toooo bitter. It's awful tasting coffee to drink black.  Not over roasted just awful roasted.
