Since Thursday, I've kinda been wandering around eyes-glazed, and more than a little zombie-like.  I haven't had much "Real Estate" business to do over the four-day holiday weekend.  Oh, a couple of phone calls, meeting a client at a condo so she could measure... but no showings, no listings... very very calm....

I've felt a bit "off" over the weekend.  No, I didn't have a cold, or that flu that's been running around. I've been healthy (or as healthy as I get), just "off".  I've only been running on two cylinders, and sleepwalking through the day.  I've had no goals to meet, no schedule to keep, wake when I want, sleep when I'm ready.  Ahhhh... the entire weekend has been that lazy Sunday where the weather isn't nice enough to go out, so you lounge around the house all day, the Sunday paper spread all over the kitchen table.  Watching whatever presents itself on the television (who writes this crap, anyway?).

It got so bad that I signed on to AR, and there was nobody there... did I write a dozen blogs, and take full control of the featured blog roll?  I did not.  I turned the computer off, and went and made a bagel.  I checked back in a few times a day, saw that nothing was going on, and laid back and did some more "nothing" of my own.

This morning, here we are back at Monday morning, and the cycle begins again.  We have our Mandatory Monday Morning Meeting (4M), and so I'm up and dressed early, ready (and eager) to go out and greet the day.  I have a schedule to keep... the 4M begins promptly at 9:15, and then at 10:30 we have our Caravan, where we view the new properties from our own office.  Then I have a condo to have photographed, some phone calls to make, and return ... well, you get the idea.

I already feel better.  You know, I need that schedule, I need that routine, it motivates me and keeps me moving forward.  I need the structure.  And structure, in the real estate business, is hard enough to generate.

And here I am... right on time, first thing of the morning, my first post of the day.

It's so easy to fall into a stay-at-home attitude.  Into a "my clients are interrupting Oprah" attitude... and you know where that will get you?

Lots, and lots more free time!  Be careful what you wish for!

I loved the past four days off!  Got to spend time with the kids and enjoy the local fun.  Took a carriage ride with the family around Colonial Williamsburg, went to Busch Gardens (although I did make some work phone calls while riding the train ride around the park...much to my family's chagrin).  I am ready and charged up for the week!  Hope your Thanksgiving was great!

Lisa - 'out of synch' really does describe it, doesn't it?

Kathryn - but it sounds as though your four days off were all "planned"... you had a schedule... see, that helps.

Alan, I can tell you didn't cook Thanksgiving dinner.  It's great to have the time off to relax.  It helps make you look forward to the routine and rhythm of work.  We all need structure.

Lora "Leah" - no... my wife cooked a few things, and we had Thanksgiving at my grown daughter's home.  It was lovely.

Alan:

If you have been reading my posts lately, and I am sure you have, you know that I actually had time to go to "Black Friday."  Now, that is having some free time...  And, I survived.

Alan, this is one of the reasons I like working from an office vs. working from a home office only.  Maybe some people can really separate the two, but I find that when I work out of my house, I also find more things to do that aren't work related.  It's simply too easy to get distracted from the job at hand.

I did get that flu and it was tough to even think real estate, but I too am back in the swing.

Hi Alan...guilty as charged.  I actually took the entire 4 days off from AR (and Real Estate in general), and I have to admit that it was a little "freeing" to some extent.  Then again, I didn't participate in Black Friday or any other chaotic frenzy other than cooking, reading and hanging out with family and friends.  In fact, with my sister in town, instead of spending a frenetic Sunday of shopping, we opted to go out to lunch and later grab some coffee at Peets and sit on a park bench across the street and talk for another 2 hours.  It was one of the best days I've had all year.  :)

Claudette - you know I do.... and you're fortunate to have survived.

Roger - agreed.  I wrote a post on that early on.  I can't work from home either.

Karen - I got a version of that flu a couple of weeks back, and it really did drain my motivation.

David - that sounds wonderful and energizing.

I don't have any trouble with free time or a lack of structure, in fact I much prefer it.

Patricia - it is that tryptophan, which I think is an enzyme.

I never know what to do with a day or two off, but it's no problem since I seldom have that issue to worry about (unfortunately).  This year I was putting out fires even on Thanksgiving day and all weekend, with a problem escrow closing right after turkey day, and another one scheduled shortly after that.

The emails I received started with Happy Thanksgiving, followed by a list of urgent problems that needed to be addressed, some of which had to wait until Monday anyway because government offices were all closed over the weekend.  That didn't stop the flood of emails that I had to address in some way in the meantime however.  I"m just thankful that I had escrows to worry about.  At least I know there will be money for Christmas!

It is nice to have a moment or two to just exhale and not be so stressed. My family has ask that I take time to just focus on them during the holidays , and I must say it is challenging.

Lorraine or Loretta - I'm still waiting to Exhale.

Irene - sure, will do.

I was one who had a bug the weekend after Thanksgiving and a slight cold over this weekend. I do however have a routine and it MAKES me get up and keep going after I've taken care of myself and gotten a bit of rest. I can be complacent ....everyone can. But 'will' we overcome that and continue on for the sake of our business?  There's ALWAYS something we can do to stay on track.

Celeste "Sally" - having a bug in Paradise is still "living in paradise".

Holly - much better, thank you.
