Serious Safety Issue with the Ford Windstar Minivan

By
Home Stager

If you know anyone who has a Ford Windstar minivan 1998-2003, please tell them to STOP driving it!  I recieved the following message from someone I trust (so therefore I believe it to be true) and thought I'd pass it along ....

"If you know anyone who has a Ford Windstar minivan 1998-2003, please tell them to STOP driving it until they have the rear axle checked and replaced

I got the recall letter a couple of weeks ago and have not had a chance to take the car in. My husband inspected it right away and saw nothing. Friday after a grueling morning commute to Hartford on 84 I safely got to my destination and parked. When I got back into my car the back tires were bowed to the ground and the rear axle was completely broken in half!  If this had happened while I was on the highway I would not be writing you again.

Please tell anyone you know that they must stop using their car.

Once my car was towed to the Plainville Ford dealer it was put on a lot with over 30 windstars this has happened to since the recall. My car had to be dragged off the flatbed. The problem is so bad that every Ford dealer is overwhelmed with windstars.

There aren't enough mid sized rentals in the state to accomodate the problem. There are no parts availabe to possibly Jan or Feb 2011. Needless to say, I called Ford and blasted them for not making it imperative that the cars be taken off the road and telling us that our lives are in immediate danger. Why isn't it on the news?  Well hopefully it will be soon."

Thank you

So please, if you know anyone who has a Ford Windstar minivan 1998-2003, please tell them to STOP driving it!

Karen, I am so happy you are alright. What a close call. I can not think of anyone I know with a Ford Windstar but I am going to re-blog to help get the warning out.

Karen, great post.  I checked the recall list and there are 462,750 vehicles affected.  This is mostly for the northern states and is supposedly caused by the "rust"potential.

Please stay safe and thanks for reminder others that these recalls are not for putting off until tomorrow!!!

BTW, CONGRATS on the 100,000 mark!!!!!  It's because of YOUR inspiration and your 30 day challenge that I stepped it up.  Thanks for the fun and information.  I look forward to more years and of getting to know you better.

Deanne - fortunately I wasn't affected.  This story was shared by someone it happened to.   I thought it would be good to pass the message on.

Juli - thanks for checking into that - it makes sense that it is region specific now.  And that is quite a milestone, isn't it!  I"m glad you enjoyed the challenge.  And I look forward to reading your posts and getting to know you better as well!

Jacqueline & Melissa - I'm sure they are safe now that they're not driving the car!
