Tips to Get Referrals

By
Real Estate Broker/Owner 01293735 CA

I use referrals as one of the backbones of my business. I have worked hard for many years to build a large pipeline of past clients and also agents from other areas and even in the area where I live. Here are some of the sources of referrals for me.

1. Past clients - I stay intouch with past clients in person, online, through mail.

2. I connect with the people who work where I go- in the center where our office is located, at the security gates where I go, in the country clubs, in the new home sales offices, in the restaurants, stores

3. Our service people- I recently heard at a seminar that if your service people are not giving youat least 2 referrals a year, you need to get new service people. Just the service people and their families and friends are a good pipeline of business. Gardeners, painters, cleaners, landscapers, carpet cleaners, locksmith, window washer, handyman, and on and on.

4. Agents leaving the business. They have past clients that are worth servicing and paying a referral.

5. Wherever you go, let people know you are a realtor. I recently met some people in an airport looking for a home in La Quinta and the next day the waiter at the restaurant was from La Quinta and getting ready to move back.

6. Join clubs, church, your children's school, charity groups, golf and tennis groups. All of these people who you help and know you and love you will want you to be their realtor and the realtor for their families and friends.

7. Other realtors through seminars and your company in other areas. I do seminars at offices of other real estate companies and get relationships and referrals with other realtors. Join Tom Ferry Yourcoach.com. The agents there really do share referrals.

8. Facebook friends bring many referrals. Do your facebook friends know you are a realtor and what your best listings are?

How many of these do you do? Do you have any other ideas for referrals that work well for you?

Hi Lori, we have partnered with a local bankruptcy attorney and he has given us several referrals for short sales.  We have 2 new listings as a result and we are expecting one more.

Referrals are amongst the most important things to a business... How often do you stay in contact with your past clients???? I am curious because I just closed my first set of deals over the summer and I would like to stay in contact with them but don't know how often I should. Thanks for the great post, referrals are important in any line of sales that you are in.

Lots of good ways to stay connected. I like facebook. Craigslist also works for prospecting.

Real estate is people/relationship business. Whether it is connecting on Facebook or at Toastmasters, it is about forging relationships.

Hi Lori - I missed this but caught it when it was reblogged.  These are really good suggestions.  Follow up is essential and most agents don't do it.  I also find that promoting a local business can lead to referrals from that business.
