Google Analytics
I have only used this tool for 2 days so thus far, I am in love with it!!! While I have monitored my website traffic for years (perhaps the ones that come from my web hosting providers were not as efficient, or perhaps it was just me - who feels like I am trying to understand Hebrew decifering the reports it generate for me) I do not have much insights as to what they mean. Nope, not until I have Google Analytics.
I am here to share about this new found jewel.....

Here's the beauty:
You can add a large selection of websites for traffic report. Even if you wanted to track 1 specific page on your website, you can do that too.

When you enter your website for traffic monitoring, it takes approximately 24 hours before generating results you want to view.
NOTE: You need for Google Analytics to generate the tracking script for you before the beauty can start. To generate the code, go to Add a Website (as soon as you log onto the main Google Analytics main page):

Add the script above to right above the </body> tag of your website.
It has to be added to every page for a full tracking report. Or if your website was generated with the shared headings, all you need to do it to past the script once.
Now, you are ready to track your website......
At the dashboard (the main page of your tracking page), you will see a snapshot overview of the traffic report such as number of visits, pageviews, average time on site, percentage of new visits, traffic sources overview and content overview.

What I find very important to me are the traffic sources and content overview reports.
Under the traffic sources, you will see how many direct hits you have, and other referral domains. Hence, you would know whether to increase or continue your efforts in ensuring your marketing materials have your website address. This section also tells you what the keywords viewers use to get to your website.
In the content overview, it reports what interest the viewers on your website. You can continue to build on the section of your website or increase exposure of other sections you want your viewers to view.
I am just scratching the surface of website traffic reports. There are many articles out there to understand what traffic reports really mean to you. As a small business owner with the internet as a potential source of business, it is important that we understand the reports to view its accuracy and where to increase efforts online.
I hope this will be a great resource for your business as it has become mine since I have it....
