Several individuals in our city have formed teams and advertise the fact that they have "x" number of combined years experience or the family that plays together works together to help sell your house. Can a team deliver any better service than a single agent? The location of the house and its condition have not changed. In fact the only variable that could be there is the listing price. The team approach may be a great marketing tool but can they get you a higher price? If the single agent does his/her marketing correctly they will help get you the highest price the market will determine. Can they give you better service? How can a 6 member team give you six times the service as the single agent can. I suggest they cannot. It is  a marketing ploy. It may appear to work but if you carefully examine their sold to listed ratio you might find that their ratio is no better than your ratio - and you are a single agent.

I don't see how 1 team can be any better than 1 attentive real estate agent.  I do see benefits to the agent though, being able to direct phone calls and turn your phone off for a movie could be fun :)

Good Question.  If one agent, has quality systems for marketing and pricing and prospecting... then I don't believe a 'team' would be more valuable than a single agent.

I do believe seller's like the idea... and it may be a more competitive approach to increase listing volume.

Just make sure you respect whom you enter a partnership with.  Could be a positive or negative experience, depending who you choose.

There are pros and cons.  Sometimes Sellers like the thought of a "Team".  Two for the price of one - what a deal!

On the other hand; If I am hiring John because I met him and like him - I don't want Tom doing my open house - I hired John!

My husband and I are a team and we do provide better service then some single agents in our area. In a nutshell it allows us to be in two places at once.   We both network in different venues, take turns working the floor at the office and searching for properties for our buyers.  We can always be reached by phone and one of us is always available to "run" to provide assistance to our client.   We always attend the listing appointments together so our clients get to know both of us, and we both are present at the buyers meeting so we can access the needs and wants of our buyer.   Not all teams work well together or posses great communication skillls which provides a great dis-service to the client.  On the flip side, we're sure there are awesome agents out there that manage to do it all and do it better then any team on their best day.

Thank you for your response Scott and Heather. I should have been more clear in my original comments as to what I define as a team. We have a husband and wife team in one of our offices and I certainly have no problem with that. However we have "teams" in our board where there are 12 members in one team and another who advertises they have 6 in their team and show their pictures in their ads. They use this in their marketing. In situations like this are consumers getting 6 or 12 times the service that 1 agent can give? The one who makes the money is the leader who takes a cut from ewach of the 12.
