"Baby, it's cold outside!" Tucsonans Experience Record Lows!
The "fur"- lined wool coats are out in Tucson!
I lived 23 years in and around Green Bay, WI, so cold is relative - but it's been nippy in Tucson this past week! The winds are flapping, the water hoses are freezing, and it's time for a "long winters' nap"!
Tucson has had some record-breaking cold in the last few days, and Tucson Water is warning residents that outer pipes need to be protected.
"Tucson Water suggests making sure that service lines to evaporative coolers have been shut off and drained. In addition, any exposed pipes located outdoors, including spigots or faucets, irrigation systems, and backflow prevention devices should also be protected from cold weather. Pipe insulation can be purchased at area hardware and home improvement stores." Don't forget to cover your plants and bring potted blooms in for the night.
Last weekend we visited friends that live along the El Dorado Golf Course and it was humorous to see the golfers in their parkas and fur-lined hoodies, gloves, hats.... Fortunately, according the the National Weather service, the mercury is set to rise again.
Every so often the local newspapers feature hilarious photos of winter visitors in their t-shirts walking alongside hat-wearing, gloved, parka-zipped Tucsonan residents out for a walk in the cooler temps of mid-forties or low fifties.
We enjoy our balmy weather - it's just shocking when it temporarily "isn't". I still intimately remember my first Christmas in the balmy city of Tucson, AZ. We were out on the patio, giving my son a morning haircut, and the thermometer read "70 degrees". A few hours later we enjoyed a dip in the community pool...
I for one, am glad to hear the cold snap is temporary! If you're looking to escape long-lasting cold snaps, give me a call. I'm happy to share my love of the Tucson desert with you!
