Peachtree Hills Neighborhhod Update

Several things to catch up on for neighbors.

First a notice from Courtney Jones regarding a lost pet cat:

A white, gray, and tan short haired cat (medium build) has been hanging around our house (2349 Hurst Dr.) It seems to be domesticated b/c it is very friendly and affectionate, but has no tags. We were wondering if anyone has lost their cat? He/she (we can't tell what the gender is) is so beautiful and sweet, we'd hate for someone to be missing it...Please contact Courtney Johnson [courtneyej@gmail.com].

· A note on a recent theft:

FYI - I just received a call from the homeowner at 134 Springdale, telling me that the contractor redoing the house at 142 Springdale had $3000 of tools stolen sometime after 1600 on 9/5 (Tuesday). I don’t know whether the contractor reported it or now.

He also said the family at 148 Springdale had a bike stolen sometime this summer.

· From Corey Richardson, our NPU-B rep:

Here are the highlights of the 9/4 meeting:

* No mention of IB project nor changes we have been discussing
* Violent crime in Zone 2 has increased thus fat YTD - police working on changing this (how ??)
* New contact at DA office - Bobby Wolf W#404.224.3288 // robert.wolf@fultoncountyga.gov
* Atlanta Planning Advisory Board seeking interested citizens to serve on local advisory boards or representatives on external Boards or Commissions. Please contact APAB directly if interested in serving in this capacity.
* Chastain park master Plan meeting for those interested - Sept 18th 6:30-8:30pm - contact APAB for location.
* ROAD WORK ON PIEDMONT: major work on 4 of 6 lanes of Piedmont from Pharr Rd. south to Miami Circle starting September 10th and lasting two (2) weeks per the City - major traffic problems expected

· Isakson-Barnhart project – hopefully everyone has noticed that IB has signed a landscape maintenance agreement to improve the look of the bulbouts and yard space both inside and outside their development fences. It is a much better look than it has been. IB has also submitted a permit application to begin the development of the common areas, street lights, fences and other features of the overall property. Our NPU-B representative and traffic calming committee folks have had reviewed the drawings, and we’ve submitted points for consideration related to their application and proposed design. The design includes a fountain area King’s Circle and some really amazing public green space design (we plan to have a fountain design contest for the fountain itself, but will have more details on that coming shortly). It also includes some additional cross walks on Peachtree Hills, including adding a raised one. The traffic calming committee has studies from the original traffic calming project that are relevant and timely for considering the proposal. We will circulate more detailed comments as they become available. Also, I hope everyone has enjoyed the existing buildings turning such an amazing color of aqua blue. This is a special paint coating that prevents building fibers from spreading into the air during the demolition process. The buildings should begin coming down in the next few weeks.

· Parking lot carjacking – in mid-August, there was a carjacking and assault in the rear part of the parking lot of Publix at Terrace. There were minor injuries sustained by the female victim and Zone 2 is on the case. As safe as our neighborhood is, and as low as violent crime statistics have fallen in recent years, it is still prudent to observe the rules of common sense – park where you can be seen, don’t have valuables in your car in plain sight, be cautious at all times. These will help mitigate any opportunities the bad guys might have to put people or property in danger. The carjacker and vehicle were found within 2 days and the perp was in custody.

· The new traffic signal at Fairhaven and Peachtree had it’s green time adjusted at the request of a neighbor, and now more than 2 cars can comfortably get through at the light. Hopefully everyone that uses it has noticed the improvement.

· Zoning vote – At the Atlanta City Council meeting on Monday, August 20, the city council voted unanimously in support of legislation that would increase property development restrictions in our neighborhood, among others. I’ve attached a link to an article at Mary Norwood’s website, who worked hard for several years to get this legislation passed.

· Flag update – we have placed the order for neighborhood flags, and expect to have them for delivery in the next 2 weeks. They will be dropped off individually when they arrive, and thanks to everyone who bought one.

We will circulate some additional communications shortly regarding the upcoming annual meeting and election, as well as a more detailed security summary. The meeting will be held on September 25, Tuesday, at 7 pm. Unfortunately, a beltline planning group has reserved the PH Gym so we’re trying to make sure there’s either enough room for both groups, or move it to the E Rivers auditorium.

Stay well around the hood!

Justin
