Well, we did it! We managed to spend an entire day (minus the last 1/2 hour) at the Ren Fest.

We showed up to the RenFest just in time to see King Henry VIII enter Revel Grove and open the day's events.  Met up with our friends and traipsed down to our traditional RenFest breakfast of Knave on a Stake in a Boat (sausage on a stick).  Then over to our favorite bardish bartender to grab an ale and a couple of bee stings (honey mead with Hard Apple Cider).

My wench the wife

On the way back, we watched a Highland contest with big burly men in kilts attempting to toss telephone poles end over end.  (We hadn't finished our bee stings yet - so yes, they really were doing this).  We went wandering to grab a Scotch Egg - a hard boiled egg wrapped in sausage - was greeted by the king (my wench wife got all excited by this) and headed back to the jousting arena to see the morning joust.

His Majesty - King Henry VIII

After the jousting we went over to see Johnny Fox, Sword Swalloer Extraordinaire (claims to have no oral fixations).

Our friends (father/son) have another in their family who is big into gymnastics so we went over to see the Aerial Angels perform (http://www.angelsintheair.com/)  They were fantastic.  Started off the demonstration by having the lead angel practice her bullwhip.  Certainly attracted a larger crowd by having a slight thing in a skin tight leotard snapping a bull whip.  The highlight of this was when they chose our friend to be a part of the act.  These 3 "ladies" were quite entertaining.

After watching "A Fool called "O"", there was much shopping to be done - Christmas and birthday presents, restocking of incense sticks, more bee stings, chocolate ice cream, food, drink.  (Wait I said that).

One point we were taking a respite and happened upon a group called E Muzeki.  Rather delightful trio of percussion, guitar and violin.  My wench bought one of their CD's and has since fallen in love with the music.  If you would like to hear free samples go to their website - http://www.emuzeki.com/

The only other really cool event that we got to witness was toward the end of the day when most of the performers, the die hard renfesters and the curious public gather at the main watering hole for more drinking, dirty ditty's and general mayhem.

Really a fantastic time!

Matthew, one year I got a gig as a recorder playing wench in an incredibly hot an bulky garment at the Maryland Ren Fest!  It's something I never quite forgot!  The guy who hired me turned into a pan handler a couple of years later.  When I saw him at at the Dupont Circle Metro, cup in hand, I wanted to say "Get a real estate license, already!"

Thanks for sharing, Patricia.  Since you were an actual hire, perhaps you can lend relevance to some rumors I have heard about the place...
