Ever run across a bully? Somehow a few of them lasted through their school years and have aged into oversized jerks with too much free time and the fervent belief that if they can then they should.
I have a new bully 'friend'. I say friend because I’m clinging to every scrap of positive energy that I can find as all the negative anger, disbelief and hate I’ve experienced this week is exhausting. There is no point in allowing this man to ruin my week but I’m just not cut out for this. I live in world where adults act responsibly, do the right thing and settle their differences in a logical fashion (or at least try to). Apparently this is not his world.
Pay-off: On one hand I’d like to just make him go away. However, that would require me to pay him a large amount of unearned and unjustified money (that I don’t have) and forever leave the taste of shame for not sticking up for myself.
Fight: On the other hand winning this pointless battle could get needlessly expensive, time consuming and provides him the opportunity to drag my name through the mud (false though it may be) in the process.
Ignore: I’d like to stick to the old “just ignore ‘em” mentality but this guy is a real prize. He has proven that too much free time plus endless amounts of malice make for harassment and general ‘d-baggery’ that are mind blowing.
My happiness requires that I do what is right in my gut, all the time, no matter what it costs me. My gut tells me that ‘buying him off’ feels like I’m at his level. However, at what point does it make sense to protect your good name from false accusations?
Anyone have a bully strategy to share? Or perhaps just a hug? :)
