I didn't need the calendar to tell me it was December 1st this morning. A look out the window at a dusting of snowflakes on the deck was all it took to get me in the mood for Christmas here in the mountains of Murphy North Carolina.
This is the earliest snowfall I've seen on the mountain peaks since I moved to Murphy 8 years ago.
Our first year here, Santa delivered snow on Christmas morning for our daughter, born on a tropical island in the South China Sea.
And last year, we woke to a few inches of fresh snow for our Hometown Christmas parade on December 5th.
But I had to stop the car this afternoon as I headed for Tri-County Community College in Peachtree and take a picture.
The snow covered peaks against that clear blue sky in the distance and the little cluster of buildings in the valley below reminded me of vacations in Colorado.
Tomorrow the temperature in Murphy will be back in the mid-50's which is one of the reasons why I love living here in the southern tip of the Smokey Mountains. We get just enough winter weather to enjoy curling up in front of a cozy fireplace, but not enough to get cabin fever!
