I have a friend who allows himself to have bad Tuesday’s. It seemed that when he was feeling his worst and he thought about it, it was always Tuesday. So when Tuesday rolls around he is ready to roll over. Not that any of us can roll over, but we all feel like that at times. Yesterday was my Tuesday and I thought of calling my friend. Then I realized having a bad day is not news, we all have bad days. I began to think about why I was thinking about bad days and it had to do with some of the daily work, we as real estate professionals, have to accomplish to be successful.
I am at the beginning of setting up my database of clients, colleagues, prospects, sphere of influence, affiliates, family and friends. This is a daunting task if you allow yourself to think about it. Here is a list of everyone you know and everyone you have ever known and want to talk to again. So here I am at day 2 of that and feeling slightly overwhelmed by the process of going through each and every name and making sure I have it entered into the system in the right way so I can track my engagements.
This work seems so distant to the actual closing of a deal, but it is along the route and if I want to be good at the overall game, I have to focus on the details. The details of any good real estate program is it’s database and the activities around that database. It is the way you connect and communicate with your audience. It is your audience who will engage you. By engaging you I don’t just mean the business and financial side, but more importantly in this social media world, the personal/web side of your life. The agents that get that using tools to coordinate your efforts across the broad platforms in which we need to communicate will be the ones who thrive. I believe this completely.
So in order to be the best of the overall game I have to be the best darn database person working this week. I think you reveal your character in each and every action you take. We are measured that way. Why not just do things right, right away and be done with it. You can do the next thing with the same energy when you get to it. I decided that my Tuesday was going to be done when I had completed the work I just didn’t want to do and was allowing to make me feel badly. When I left the office I didn’t feel any better, but today I feel as though I stretched myself through one of those “trap days” that can just ruin your overall mojo. Why not just be as good as you want to be today at whatever your task. Get after it and smile, you are already winning.

It is all a state of mind isn't it? We can decide to allow ourselves to have a bad day or we can decide to turn it around!
