As I mentioned in past blogs I am an avid reader, I especially enjoy books that will help make me better at what I do, so when I see a book about referrals, I have to read it immediately. I just finished reading The Referral Engine by John Jantsch some of you may have read his book Duct Tape marketing. I rate books with a $-$$$$$ rating based on how valuable the book is to my business and how how valuable I feel it is to the audience.
- $$$$$ means that the book is a must have for any library and a good book to refer to anytime you need sound advice
- $$$$- means that the book is very good and worth reading
- $$$- means their may be a few nuggets of information, and if you cant find something else to do go ahead and read this book
- $$- do not waste your time
- $- I am sorry I wasted my time and be thankful you saw this book report before wasting yours
The Referral Enginehad some very good content, unfortunately one of the things I can never get over when reading a book is when it is poorly edited, misspelled words, or even wrong words. They take the reader immediately away from the intended material and make them think that the author or publisher just through the book together. This book must have had at least 100 errors in it, so much so that I had a hard time focusing on anything but, "why did this ever go to print in this condition, there is so much that John Jantsch has to offer me, but I can not get past the editing." Using the the Write words when righting (see how annoying this can be) totally gets you off subject.
If this book comes out with a second edition that has been edited properly it could very well be a $$$$$, however in it's current state I can only give it $$$, some excellent yet unintended information I gathered from this book, is No Matter What You Write, Make Sure to use Spell Check and re-read the content for Errors, the Impression you relate through the written word can really backfire if done haphazardly
John Jantsch, if you are out there, please re-write this, I would love an edited copy
