Desperation Reeks: Don't Let Your Brand Carry the Scent

In today's world of instant gratification, newbies and seasoned businesspeople alike fall into the same trap: the expectation of growing a brand quickly and effortlessly, with success sure to follow. Wake up, people! That isn't how it works. The only way to grow a brand powerfully and effectively is through steady focus and strategy. Leave the desperation and drama at the door.

So what does that mean? First, put grandiose expectations aside and be realistic. You need a steady platform from which to launch and grow your brand before you can count on fame and fortune. Second, be willing to sit your ass in the chair and do the work; dreaming can only take you so far, and in this case, it's nowhere near far enough. Third, know that it takes time. No recognizable brand was built overnight. It may seem that way on the surface, but those behind the scenes of developing, testing, restructuring, re-seeing, and finally launching the world's powerhouse brands know otherwise. Most of the time, it takes years to create and grow a successful brand, one that will adapt with the times rather than because of them, and affect a positive difference in the world.

Remember that old saying, slow and steady wins the race? It's true with brand development, too. You can think you know exactly what your brand should be and where it should go, but if you rush the process, the work will be shoddy. In the business world, shortcuts rarely lead to anywhere but trouble, and the brand that reeks of desperation can be smelled from miles away.

Corey,

I love your post.  We launched a new marketing platform for real estate professionals to advertise their properties and are taking it slow and steady.  We working it strategically and steadily.  You have to have a sound foundation to build a house or the whole thing will crumble.  It is much the same in business.

Absolutely Faina.  It takes time and persistence to create a brand that lives up to what it was intended to be.
