I see you driving 'round town
With the girl I love and I'm like,
Forget you!
I don't know about you, but I'd never heard of Cee-Lo, before the recent episode of Glee, yes, I admit I'm a Gleek, I love that show.
Gwyneth Paltrow did a guest appearance on the show, and did a decent job. She was cute, perky and could sing and dance too. (I wouldn't expect anything different from Blyth Danner's daughter, would you?) Anyhoo, the Glee cast of teenagers (yeah right, teenagers with male pattern baldness, maybe?)... complained that Mr. Schu's set list was a bit too "old", and they needed to do some more contemporary stuff.
I guess the change in my pocket
Wasn't enough, I'm like,
Forget you! And forget her too!
That's when the students suggest some guy named "See-Low" (Cee-lo), and Gwyneth and her cute self breaks into a cute and kicky song called "Forget You"... which the missus and I really enjoyed. It was an off-Broadway-esque, maybe theatre in the round song and dance routine... upbeat and perky... very "on"... fun and modern...
Said, if I was richer, I'd still be with ya
ha , aint that some shhhhh?
ain't that some shhhhh?
And although there's pain in my chest
I still wish you the best with a...
Forget you!
It turns out, it's a G-rated version of Cee-Lo Green's "F**k you"... (just substitute that title for "Forget You", and raunchy it up a bit). I've since listened to and downloaded C-Lo's version... which is just as fun and funky, but maybe not quite as "over the top Broadway-esque" as Gwyneth's ... but Gwyneth's is the one that's getting some serious airplay, right now.
Oo, oo, oooo
Yeah I'm sorry, I can't afford a ferrari,
But that don't mean I can't get you there.
I guess he's an xbox and I'm more atari,
But the way you play your game ain't fair.
My understanding is that Cee-Lo has garnered an Grammy award nomination, and as such he should be singing a live version of the song at the Emmys. Of course the buzz is asking... which version... is he gonna sing "Forget You", or "F**k you!". Cee-Lo says that he's going to sing the G-rated version, but that's the same thing that Rolling Stones told Ed Sullivan when they agreed not to sing "Let's spend the Night Together" on live national television (I guess that was racy back then)... and then purposely disobeyed him...
Keep your eyes on the screen, and your hands on your ears.
