Bullheadedness Pays

By
Real Estate Agent with RE/MAX of Nanaimo

Although I am writing more about my sport than about real estate here, please bear with me as there is a correlation between the two...and I want to share it with you.Rhonda Heaslip

I'm 52 and training for a National and World Powerlifting Championships. I've just broken 8 national records last month. This was after a 15 year retirement, 4 shoulder surgeries and an infection from one of them that nearly killed me in 2005. The doctor said I would never have full function of my right shoulder again.

Unacceptable. I love my sport, I love my family, I love life.

I fought back.

Bullheadedness is a side effect of my main passions: powerlifting and real estate, and more importantly, family.

Passion, self belief and determination are the parents of bullheadedness and determination and I'm all for it! It's what makes good become great. Watch for my blogs on the Canadian Championships in March, then the Worlds in October.

It will be bullheadedness at its finest as I plan on more records before I'm done. Did someone say something about a bum shoulder?

But here's the magic that is happening...and this is about real estate.

My business is improving as I take this fantastic mental and emotional journey...I do believe they are closely connected. The attitude needed as an athlete is spilling over into my work. The energy, drive and confidence I am experiencing on the job is incredible...and my clients are taking notice of this, too.

Within the last 48 hours:

  1. I closed the sale on one of my listings.
  2. I drew multiple offers on another of my listings (slam-dunking it home with an accepted offer today).
  3. I did a listing presentation with my first ever developer (been courting this one for 6 months now) and it's looking really good. He's building one house after another and he seems to like the way I work.
  4. I picked up 2 bona-fide ready to go buyers and, as we know, buyers are golden.

I guess what I am saying is simply this:

Take whatever you are passionate about to soaring new heights and you will renew your energy, drive and self confidence in a way that may surprise you. This will affect ALL aspects of your life as the positive energy you emit becomes apparent to those around you.

  • Believe in yourself.
  • Believe in what you do.
  • Believe me: The rest will follow.

Shine on and be the very best that you can be...We all have a champion sleeping inside of us. It's time to wake him or her up!

Rhonda,

That's good for you. When you say it that way, it seems a little on the negative side. However, you could just as easily have said, dedication, perseverance and consistentcy.

Good luck!

Brian

Rhonda,

Not the post, but the term "bullheadedness" is somewhat pejorative.

Kathy, I like what you said about success...and I'm going to adopt it!

Karen Anne, I'm happy if I can inspire....Positive energy should always be allowed to go viral, don't you think?

Malcolm. I like what you are suggesting and when it gets to that point, know of any good assistants?? :)

(I must, however, always keep those 1 1/2 hour "insanity prevention appointments" with myself at the gym. Real estate allows me to be flexible as to what times I can train. Training gives my life balance.)

I stopped running 20 years ago and I have thought many times that I could never get back in shape again. Now, you have given me hope and a little inspiration to get back out there and get back in shape.

Todd, That's awesome! If I have inspired you to pursue something in life that you love once again then I am a very happy woman. Please keep me posted on your progress...and I will keep posting the news on mine as well.

Start easily and slowly, listening to your body as those runners' muscles wake up again. Don't worry about how long things take. It will happen as your body allows it to. Listen to your body, but DO NOT set limits in your mind as to what you are capable of....because then that will be all you are capable of....do not travel that road.

Be sure to incorporate stretching, weights and running in a symbiotic balance and you will come back stronger than you think is even possible...but the belief in your abilities and the passion for your sport is the fuel that builds the champion inside you, so remember that first and foremost.

Enjoy the ride, my friend!
