Have you ever driven past an Open House and thought you should be going in? Then this blog entry is for you!! While Open Houses aren't mandatory, I think it's GOOD to Visit an Open House and in a quick and easy way, here's why:
The Sellers are normally not at an Open House...and their Realtor or a Representative for their Realtor is normally hosting.
I enjoy meeting them for a few reasons. One, it will give you a chance to see how they are~ their professionalism, willingness to help and it will also give you a chance to find out more information about the neighborhood...all important features if you're going to possibly be making an offer and working with them in a transaction.
Two, it will also give you insight into the Sellers...not only what they are like, but more importantly their position about selling their home, you'll find out more about the house than you would from viewing the pics online, and most importantly...you may just find out a little something that will help you in regards to the price. I don't know about you, but I love (no LOVE!) finding out all of this information...especially if it's a good possibility in your home search.

Plus, since the Sellers aren't there, you pretty much have a little more time and less well, um, pressure or tension in the air that you need to talk with the Seller or listen to what they are telling you about their home.
In summary, attending an Open House will give you YOUR OWN TIME to view the home and it's features, characteristics and get an overall feel for the house, without having to wonder about the Sellers in the other room. Do you know what I mean?

I agree with what you have to say here. I think this is good advice for all. Happy holidays.
Great post, Todd. Open houses are a great way to see and compare neighborhoods, undertand value and meet and possibly interview real estate agents especially for homebuyers starting their search. It's easy and it can be fun too!
Jeffrey ~ Thank You...Happy Holidays!
Michael ~ You are right! Thank you for your comment.
I wish everyone thought like you. Good advice.
Todd, you are so correct, and you never know what information we can learn by just a quick visit. I had some clients go into an Open one time to find the Realtor napping...... maybe not so professional. :)
Jodi ~ Thank You!
Joan ~ Quick Visits are great!...omg, thanks for sharing...that is funny.
Tod, I regularly stop by open houses, and here in Naples, because most of our buyers are on vacation, we conduct open houses Mon to Sunday, so there is always an open house somewhere on my way. I find it to be a lot easier than scheduling a preview and like you mentioned the added bonus of meeting agents and the information you can collect.
Todd, Right on target. I never get enough of seeing houses, meeting my peers, great architecture and design, meeting potential buyers and sellers when I host, and just plain LEARNING!
Show me a jaded, tired, unenthusiastic agent that is too important to take in an open house and I'll show you the opposite.
Ellie ~ That is so clever and I agree, great way to get to know other professionals, network, while you're previewing. Wishing you much continued success! Interesting that's how you do it in Naples...I enjoy hearing about how real estate happens in other parts of the country.
Charles ~ Thanks! Learning is an everyday experience in our profession. Amen.
