Unconnected Knob and Tube Wiring ~ Chattels or Fixtures?
Bob and Doris moved into their 60 year old house 20 years ago. At the time they bought they were flush with cash and undertook major renovations.
They upgraded the wiring, disconnected all the old knob and tube, which was actually just cut and left in place.
The same thing took place with respect to the galvanized metal plumbing and some older copper plumbing. They were cut off, but left in place.
So, they just sold their house, and no sooner had the sold sign been place on the front lawn but Bernie the scrap metal dealer knocked on their door. He tours the neighbourhood buying scrap metal from house renovators and builders who demolish older homes.
He has offered $850.00 for the older wiring and old plumbing still in the walls. He says his crew will remove it. Bernie says that there will be no damage.
Can Bob and Doris sell these items still in the house?
