Running IE on a Mac

So you love Macs or at least think you might like to try one out, but as a REALTOR you have been told by everyone that it won't work with you MLS site. Ok, thats just great. Now what do I do?

Well, your not the type to give up, so you start googling and find Parallels and VMWare. They both seem to work well, but they take so dang long to load and run. They also cost around $50 or more!

Well potential Mac consumer do not give up so easily!!!

I present to you CrossOver for Mac its around $30.00. This nifty little application wraps the Wine software and allows for a one click install and many standard Windows applications. Wine is actually free, but requires some tweaking to get running and for many agents can be a pain. CrossOver provides an easy install and many tested Windows applications so you don't need to mess with WINE at all. The best part of CrossOver is it runs fast, its not loading all of Windows and then IE; it just loads the bare minimum to run your app.

The best news is you can try CrossOver for free for 30 days, just click here and give it a go. I have tried all the different flavors of IE for our NTREIS system in DFW and I personally went with IE6. I hope you enjoy this and it helps you to make the switch to a Mac.

Here is a screen shot me running IE on my 27" iMac.

@Judi - Thanks, I think its the one of the main reasons REALTORS don't choose a Mac. Once you use a Mac you never want Windows again. (shameless plug for a Mac)

Sounds like a good application for Mac.  I agree with you that Parallels and VMWare are not the better choices.  I've been using Bootcamp and find that works great!  You log off one operating system to go to the other.  Thanks for sharing!

@Terri - I just don't have time to reboot to get into my MLS, thats why I like CrossOver so much. Just click and go. I wish all the MLSs would clean up their act and work with the web standards.

I use to use Bootcamp and it is a pain to reboot.  I've been using Parallels on my MacBook Pro for a while and I have no issues loading or running it (of course, I get a new MacBook Pro every other year, and just got a new one in mid-2010).  I use Parallels 6 and no problems.  And I agree with you ... the MLS's should get with it ... so many of us are using Mac now.  :)

@Monica - Yup, I completely agree. We are all Mac all the time so I would really like to see the MLS support us.

Thanks for sharing an alternative to Bootcamp, Parallels and Fusion.
