I Miss You Grandpa..It is Veterans Day today and you aren' t here.

It has been a long nine months convincing myself you are gone.

I just want to say I know how very proud Americans are that you fought so hard for our country;

Not once but twice ( WW II and Korea).

You were just a young man with an 8th grade education that gave his all for our country.

Born of 10 children (8 boys and 2 girls) it amazes me that 5 brothers went and returned unharmed.

I know this was a time of your life that you rarely spoke of. I understand.

You gave 20 years to the Navy; A true American. An inspiration to everyone that knew you.

I thank God for choosing me to be your Grandaughter.

I Love You and Miss You Very Much.

Your Great-Grandaughter is marching in the Veterans Day Parade today...

I know you will be in the wind waving the America Flag today. I'll be blowing you kisses as well.

                                                   I miss you dearly.

Grandpa passed from a debilitating illnes:  Lewy Body Dementia

In the end this cruel disease won ... but it never stole his golden heart.

An amazing generation of men and women whom Tom Brokaw refers to as "The Greatest Generation".

I'm sorry for your loss.

What better way to teach your daughter about the sacrifices that generation made than to experience them in the parade.

Michele,

What a moving post - I have tears in my eyes as I write this.  What a nice tribute to your grandfather!

I lost my grandfather just 4 short months ago, very unexpectedly, and it's just so hard to believe he's gone.  I wrote a post on my blog to honor him and my dad, as well as all veterans.

I'm sorry for your loss........may your daughter marching in the parade help to ease some of your pain.

Ann and Brian-  Thanks.

The parade was wonderful and of course very emotional.

I just got back from San Diego's Veterans Day Parade.  The theme this year was "Women in the Service".  My 5 year old daughter had an opportunity to meet a female Marine.  She asked me the other day if "girls can be Marines".

Of course, this "female Marine" happened to be a Brigadier General.  I guess that answered my daughter's question; she met the "Boss of the Marines" and she "was a girl".

What an outstanding role model.

That certainly made your daughters day!

The parade here was great- 1.5 hrs of appreciation. We are 45 minutes from Camp LeJeune and 30 from Cherry Point so we had many uniformed men and women joining in our day.

Very touching, words can never say enough to thank those that have put their lives on the line and those that have made the ultimate sacrifice so that we can remain free.

Thank you, Jay

Thank you Jay and Mykael.

The way he lived his life inspired all of us..and taught us to be passionate with what we did.

His final years were spent reliving some of his past due to the Lewy Body Dementia he suffered from. In the end the disease won the battle but it never stole his golden heart.
