Repel The Invaders

A post by Katerina Gassett, an ActiverRain Ambassador, titled "South Florida Nature-Invasive Exotic Wildlife Is Not Good For Florida", reminded me of a similar issue we have in Texas.

In addition to several specices of animals that are causing some issues with the ecosystem, we have some really troublsome plants on some of our lakes. Here is a report on efforts undertaken to control the infestation.

I'm sure you can imagine the financial losses lake communities could experience should the plants win the battle. Boaters should take care to prevent spreading the problem.

Wow. Incredible video. Thanks for sharing. I didn't know there was a problem. I'm an outdoorsman and hate to see this kind of thing.

Wow I can't even see the water. In northern AZ we have these Mussels trying to take over the lakes. They drain all the life out of the lake I guess. Scary.

Andrew, I'm not a boater or fisherman either so this was a surprise to me too.

Jessica, With AZ being as dry as it is I'm sure it doesn't take much to affect your lales and rivers.

Wayne they really need to stand "watch" with this invasion. They haven't said too much about it on the news since early summer. I would imagine they have folks at A&M or an agency overlooking this situation.

I think lots of locals are on the case and A&M as you mentioned. Not too sexy a story as a news event if you are not close to the devestation I guess. Take care.

Wayne  What a shame - at least it appears they are concerned enough to take action.  We had a serious threat fro hydrilla some years back

Karen, Yes. I have heard that hydrilla was a problem in some places too. They are watching and working to control the problem. Plant and animal pests can be quite damaging.
