In many ways it seems like a lifetime ago.  In some ways, it really was.  It was 1997 and my husband was in the Marine Corps stationed at Camp LeJeune in North Carolina.  After eight years of service, we determined that the best decision for our family was for him to discharge from the military and move forward with the next act in our lives.  But where would we go?  Where would we start?

We considered relocating to several parts of the country.  At the time, we had family here in Oklahoma, in Texas and in Arizona.  So, our primary focus was on those areas.  We relied heavily on resources from our families.  I remember my mom mailing the classified section of the newspaper to us each week!  Can you even imagine that today?  Keep in mind, this was 1997, and we were living in a small military town.  Internet access was dial up and it was a long distance call at that!  It was long before social networking and the vast amount of information we now have at our fingertips.  Heck, Mark Zuckerberg was still in middle school!

Back then relocation was a daunting task with plenty of unknowns.  But today, it's an entirely different story.  Technology has changed everything!  I just heard about a military family moving to Edmond from their current duty station.  They have toured homes and researched neighborhoods online.  They made a selection and negotiated the offer through email.  When they arrive in Edmond next week, they will attend a final walk through of their new home.  It will be the first time they see it in person!  As technology advances, this will become more and more common.

If you are facing a relocation or military separation, rely on the services of a tech savvy REALTOR.  One that can provide you with all the information you desire about an area easily and when you need it.  If they offer to mail you a relocation packet or maybe even the classified section of the newspaper, RUN!  As a member of the Cartus Broker Network and USAA, our company works with both military and corporate relocation to and from the Oklahoma City metro all the time.  I would be happy to help you with the process.  Just call the CENTURY 21 Goodyear Green office at 405-359-7400 today and ask for me, Kristyn GrewellI promise not to mail you a newspaper!

Hey by the way, have you heard that USAA and Military.com just listed the Best Places for Military Retirement?  Oklahoma City was ranked number two on the list!  I could have told you that.  We relocated to Oklahoma in 1997 and have never looked back!
