City Ordinance targets agents.

The City of Tacoma, WA. has implemented (As of Dec. 1st) a new ordinance that mandates (sic) "real estate professionals involved in the sale of a property where there is a sewer hook-up must provide the buyer with a flyer that discusses the implications of a failed sewer hook-up prior to purchase"

This ordinance is a result of several agents in our area rebelling against the city's original plan to mandate side sewer inspections with every sale.

For the time being, the ordinance has been watered down to accommodate those in opposition.  But when I talked to the individual in charge of waste water regarding this issue I pointed out that the ordinance didn't make any reference to FSBO'S.  The line went silent.

Hmmmmmmmmm. Government!!!!

Say what? Good luck in defeating this power grab.

Brian, the funny thing is that a group of agents that didn't want the "mandatory side-sewer inspection" being proposed by the city lobbied to get this compromise.

How do you go about protecting yourself as an agent with out another layer of paper work?

Larry ... Thanks for your article about local City of Tacoma implementing (As of Dec. 1st) its new ordinance that mandates (sic) "real estate professionals involved in the sale of a property where there is a sewer hook-up must provide the buyer with a flyer that discusses the implications of a failed sewer hook-up prior to purchase".

It doesn't make sense to me for local government to hang the obligation on RE professionals and is government over regulation of private real estate transactions.

Harrison & Pat. The sad thing is that this "compromise" involved a lot of Realtor input.
