Today was a little more difficult, because I had to be gone all day. My husband had an eye appointment at the VA Hospital that called for leaving the house by 7:30 a.m. For a night person like me, this is cruel and unusual punishment, but fortunately I was able to get to sleep early last night.

We got to the appointment by 9 - a long drive. He was finally finished there by a quarter after 11.

I knew it would be a long wait - it always is. So I took along a legal pad and started writing promotional material while I sat in the truck waiting. Now all I have to do is refine it a bit and transfer it to the computer. I know, I could have taken the laptop, but when I try to type on that keyboard it comes out looking like I've had about 3 too many. When I travel and take it along I take a "real" keyboard  and mouse and plug them in!

We had a little shopping to do, so didn't make it home until 4. Then I had a request from a client to help with the words in a letter he was writing, and a note from another client asking my opinion about a topic for a blog post that I'll write for him. I got those handled, went through the rest of my email, and then... hurried over to Active Rain to see what I'd missed today! Reading and commenting is an important part of my day.

Now I'm going to Tweet a little, post something on my Copy by Marte Facebook page, and call it a day.

Normally I'd stay up late and do more, but I failed to put ice cleats on my boots when I went outside tonight - so slipped and fell. Sitting is just a bit uncomfortable! (Guess I'll remember the ice cleats from now on!)

Hi Marte.

As I can see you had a busy day.

I read your post and at the same time I have a question... what challenge are you talking about when you say The 31 days of Decembers challenge Day 6  Am I missing something in the rain? Can you tell me about it?

Last summer we had the community challenge.

I hope by tomorrow you will be feeling better.

Marte, I have a Toshiba with a full size keyboard AND a numeric keypad. I do a lot of BPO's and I need my numeric keypad. If you keep working at it, you get used to it. Our Miami VA is so good and always on time. I surprises me when I here of those that are not.

Chik - Thanks. The aspirin seems to be kicking in - maybe I'll have forgotten all about it by morning.

Esperanza - Go here to read about the challenge: http://activerain.com/blogsview/1995034/update-plus-3000-points-are-you-up-for-a-challenge-31-days-of-december-challenge

It might not be too late to get in if you say "pretty please."

There are other contests/challenges going on right now too... A Rainbow of Holiday Miracles and the Kodak Moment challenge are two that I know about, but I think there's at least one more going on. Check Jeff Belonger's blog - I think that's where I saw it.

Kathy - There's something about reaching over that front part that messes up my fingers (or perhaps my brain?) - and I drive myself crazy trying to move around on a page without my mouse. No matter where I try to push the cursor with that little thumb thing it seems to want to go somewhere else - or stop short, or go past, or something!

My son says its easy... I say I'll plug in the good stuff!

This would be no problem if you started carrying cards and remembered that everyone you speak with is either a potential client or potential referral source.

Cameron - I suppose I could have gone in and chatted up the old men in the waiting room. It could be possible that one of them might have a child or friend who could use a copywriter.

I generally avoid the waiting rooms when I can - all those folks usually want to talk about are their symptoms or how many hours they've been sitting waiting.

As it was, the only people I spoke with were the kind who say "That'll be $67.92 please." I barely even talked with my husband because he was so busy snarling over the traffic and the pedestrians who step out in front of cars in the parking lots. When he's snarling it's a good time for me to just be quiet. You know how that is?

I have to say that you are a multi-tasker at heart. Most people wouldn't even think of doing work in the waiting room of a doctors office. I have to admit I thought about sending you an email with no contact, city or anything other than my name just to get you to laugh. But, after this I think it better I just thank you for all you give us here in the rain.

Hi Todd - Yes, I'm definitely a multi-tasker. Waiting rooms aren't too bad - except that at the VA hospital I usually run into someone from home and have to visit. Guess we have a lot of Veterans in our small town, but it still always startles me when I'm that far from home and run into people I know.

You give a whole lot more here than I do, so thank YOU!
