You know, down here in south Sarasota County, as well as in Charlotte County, MANY of the homes are on septic systems and well water. I am constantly being asked by potential buyers about these systems.
First of all, what could possibly be better than well water???? Our wells here in Florida are not that deep simply because they all tap into the aquifer. Remember, no cellars here. . . you get water when you dig!!! Most of the land in Port Charlotte is 10 ft or LESS above sea level! Not until you get closer to the Desoto County line out in Deep Creek does the elevation get up to around 15-20 ft.!!! So your wells don't have to be dug very deep - hence the costs cannot be compared to someplace like Connecticut, where you dig that artesian well forever to get through the granite!!!
Now what about that septic system?? People ask why there is no city water and city sewer.... well, they just never ran the pipes through the entire area and who knows when or if they ever will! But having a leach field for your septic is NOT the end of the world! You simply have to make sure the leach field is large enough for the home/family size. And don't do things like throwing table scraps in the disposal - you don't want to give the system more to handle than necessary!
You also don't have to pay the city water and sewer bills or the taxes involved with them- so you have a savings! I personally lived on septic for years and never had any problems.
Any words of wisdom from the masses out there???? Would love to hear your thoughts on septic systems!
We are on Well and Septic and are happier than ever. Our water is like bottled water!!!
Best regards from Charlottesville!
