~ Imagine - 30 years ago today ~

It happened 30 years ago today, a life was taken from us too soon.  John Lennon would have been 70, but he was tragically gunned down at the age of 40.  I was in high school and remember exactly where I was and which hallway.  At first I didn't believe it.

John Lennon

The radio station I listen to every morning paid a tribute to him. They played so many of his songs it was just terrific.  I think my favorite song is Imagine.  It's has thought provoking lyrics.  He was the type of artist that didn't care what others thought, but stayed true to himself.  This showed through in his lyrics of  'Watching the Wheels', which he wrote in the 5 years he took off to stay home and raise his son Shawn and bake bread.  He is missed.

The Beatles shaped the opinion of the new generation. John left a great legacy and I still enjoy hearing his voice.

Watchin' the Wheels is my favorite song of all time, Dawn. It makes me think of my beautiful sons and our life together. John Lennon was a one of a kind!

I can't believe it has been 30 years... It seems like just yesterday! We lost John way before his time.... and we lost his priceless music.

Dawn, he was an amazing talent! I know there were many people who had political differences, but certainly no reason to gun down a human being. Tragic!

John ~ I love his voice as well.  I was thrilled about the radio station's tribute to John Lennon today.  I was able to hear songs that the station normally doesn't play.  The Beatles were a HUGE influence.  Music is where it is today because of them.

Devona ~ The words are so great to that song.  I would have attached a video to it, but I don't know how to add YouTube links.

Joan ~ his music was priceless.  I can hide away and just listen to his music.  For me, the music is calming.

Don ~ so true.  We all have political differences.  That's what makes the world go round, and unfortunately it got in the way.

Dawn, doesn't it make you wonder what he my have written during all of these changing times.  Think about 9/11 for instance.  He would have been appalled because he was such a peaceful person.

Juli ~ I agree.  How he died was so opposite of how he lived.  It's really, really sad.

Imagine all the people living life in peace -- John Lennon

Hmmm . . . we'd have Heaven on earth if that happened.  Instead, we have . . .
