Gilroy, California, and the it's many treasures.
Gilroy, California is known as the Garlic Capital of the World and rightfully so.
Not because we produce the largest amount of garlic. No, those days are over, China is the largest producer now, but we still host the largest food festival in the country: The Gilroy Garlic Festival hosted every year on the last weekend in July.
Gilroy is the most southernly town in the SiliconValley. It used to be a smaller farming community but we have grown to more than 52,000 residents and the city has responded to the increase by expanding shopping opportunities and services to the community. Gilroy is also famous for the Gilroy Premium Outlets.
This picture shows the Gilroy Premium Outlets at 12:01 am on Black Friday. This year many of the stores opened at 10:00 pm on Thanksgiving and by 11:00 pm the parking lots were packed. Hard to believe but it is true.
Gilroy is home to the incredible horticultural park Gilroy Gardens formerly knows as Bonfante Gardens which attracts many visitors every year. At this time of the year the park offers an incredible light show. Visit their website for more details.
