Thankful Thursday: X marks the spot...X's are for tic-tac-toe‏ and kisses

I appreciate the fact to be able to express myself through any holiday with typical salutations such as: Happy Valentines Day, Happy 4th of July, Happy Thanksgiving! Of course I thought it was cute when younger to shorten Merry Christmas to Merry Xmas without giving it a second thought. It was compact and much simpler than writing the whole thing out. And that is how I marked my cards never thinking that I was taking Christ out of Christmas but realizing now that is exactly what I was doing!

X marks the spot...Xs are for tic-tac-toe and kisses but not to be used to replace the word Christ in Christmas, after all that is why we celebrate this holiday, it is all about Him.

Wanda, no argument here, and besides I know very well how to spell it, so I don't need the abbreviation. Christmas has a meaning not to be ignored in spite of the commercialism. AND, a Valentines day, I like a few o's with my x's

Howdy and afternoon to you Wanda

Wanda, I also don't like the idea of shorting Christmas. Just like I don't like the fact that some folks do their best to stop others from using the words Merry Christmas.

Have a good one

Agreed Dale! We, as Americans possess the right to choose! I do like your festive green and red lettering! Merry Christmas!

I also am offended by the X.  I was raised in a traditional Irish Catholic home and X was never used.  I also want to say Merry Christmas or Happy Hanukkah.  It's Christmas not "holiday".  Nobody says happy holiday on Valentines day.  They say Happy Valentines Day.

I like living the Christ in Christmas too.  I heard somewhere that the X is actually a symbol of Christ; not sure where and not sure if true.  But if no one knows it then Xmas is still not good.

I choose to say Merry Christmas like you Liz! It is treated as a holiday by employers so that may be why many people consider it just that.

Gene, I saw that on another post too. I prefer Merry Christmas, not Season's Greetings or Happy Holidays...but if others choose use that as their salutation, that is their right!

Wanda, It makes me sick to see someone with a X in Christmas.  After all what is the reason for the season.   Merry Christmas!
