Top 10 Worst States To Retire!

The main issue in this designation is fiscal health and taxes according to TopRetirements.com. There is also an article today at Marketwatch.com on the subject. The links for both are below.

Due to the fiscal problems in Nevada and Florida (not on the list), it is likely that if things do not improve relatively soon that both states could be forced into having a state income tax.

New Jersey has the highest property taxes in the nation. Oh Wow! Was anyone surprised to hear that? New York is right behind them.

Hello Virginia, your state is one of the best fiscally run in the nation and you are NOT on the BIG BAD Top ten list either. Its just not warm here in the Winter.

Here is the link to the marketwatch article that will also link you to the other site and the Pew Report on states in fiscal crises. The report makes a point of making sure that retirees understand that low (or no) taxes now may not be the case in the future.

Since the Florida Constitution prohibits a state income tax I doubt that will ever happen. But as for property and sales taxes...the sky could be the limit!

Thanks for the update on the FLA Constitution. Born and raised there and lived there in Brevard the first 23 years of my life. But your right, I suspect, like every other state, FLA will make it up some other way.
