Woman allegedly used real estate business to scam customers for over 500k!

According to News Geni.us State Police are looking for more possible victims after they said a woman running a real-estate business was running a mortgage scam.

Police said Tami Demers stole more than 520 thousand dollars from several mortgage closings and refinancing though her business, "Johns and Lee Real Estate Services."

Police said in three instances mortgages were not paid off and victims were left with two mortgages on the same property.

Tami Demers of Stillwater was arrested by New York State Police Wednesday after an investigation revealed she had stolen money from clients of her title insurance company.

Tami L. Demers, 41, owned Johns and Lee Real Estate Services Inc. on Crescent Road in Halfmoon. The company handled mortgage closings and Demers served as the guardian of money involved in mortgage refinancing. She was expected to use her clients' money to pay off their original mortgages, but instead police allege she pocketed more than $520,000.

Demers are charged with three counts of second-degree grand larceny, all felonies. She was arraigned in Halfmoon Town Court and is being held in Saratoga County Jail without bail. Her next court appearance is scheduled for Jan. 12, 2011.
